MFD3 / Columbus - Night pictures

Featured Replies

Have seen quite a few threads showing the MFD3 in daylight, so I thought I'd post a few of how it looks at night - what a sad life I lead !

The last two pics show the difference between day and night screens for the sat nav.

I keep my map on night all the time, looks great with the surround

Very nice indeed! Its making me want one...must...resist... lol. Nice to see one fitted to a non climatronic model and especially with the black surround too, as yours is exactly the same as what mine will look like (if I ever save up enough to buy one). Bet your over the moon, and rightly so. Cheers, Damo.

Damn thats just not nice. lol Me wants one...:p

Did you have any problems when fitting and setting it up?????? or did it work strait out of the box.

does it have blue tooth as well if yes does it work well and can you use a separate mike

Fitting is straight forward if you follow the directions on Stu's website (that shows an MFD2, but fitting the MFD3 is similar) :-

Octavia-vRS.com - MFD2 Install Guide

I've no use for a mobile phone in the car, so haven't explored the availability of bluetooth.

Main reason for going down this route was ease of fitting, without having yards of wires to find a home for. Bought mine from ebay - do a search for a seller called naviandbmwparts . As stated in previous posts - don't be put off by the fact the seller is in Lithuania - it only took a week to arrive, and he has an excellent feedback record.

damn i thought i was the only one who had a columbus without dual zone :D :P

You may not have a use for a phone in the car but is blue tooth built into the unit or do you need to still use a separate parrot system

Anybody out there that has one of these units could you please describe what the phone system works like is it nice and clear and can you use a separate mike

bluetooth is not built in unfortunately

Thanks for that carl,

I have seen some units on ebay simular to the MfD3s showing a phone key pad on the screen would this be off the mfd2s????

Don't know for sure

I know Stu had it working on his but he installed an OEM bluetooth module.

I would imagine that's what is being used on the pictures you can see on fleabay

Carl

Position sensing via ABS of both rear wheels, the same discription is used for both the MFD2 and 3

what does this mean and how do you connect up the wiring or is it connected once you plug the unit in

Already present in the wiring loom, just plug in and it will get the info from the abs sensors.

The sensors help the car calculate its current position along with the gps receiver, eg. when you go through a tunnel and lose gps reception all together. The sensors tell the unit how fast its going, and it can therefore calculate where on the map you are.

Looks much better than Ford's unit at night.

It's just so frickin bright!

Nah - I'm in that "club" too :)

I went for the "Home Spray" job on the black surround though and the end result isn't too bad.

I suspect the images you've seen are using the integrated OEM Bluetooth on a Columbus

Octavia-vRS.com - OEM Integrated Bluetooth Telephone Install

The MFD2 does not display any phone details.

That's very nice! I want one.... May i ask did you buy off ebay, dealer or factory fit? Did you have to have the car re programmed via vagcom? and does the CD changer and aux import on arm rest work without any messing around as the MFD2 listed on Stu's site.

James.

I can field most of those :)

1. He bought it from EBay.

Skoda units are a little more difficult to find than the more common VW ones.

The Skoda ones are covered in green lights, the VW in Red.

I try and keep a thread here:

http://briskoda.net/ice-security-insurance/those-looking-skoda-rns510-ebay/134292/

Covers Skoda units currently available on EBay.

I try and update it at the beginning of each week.

2. Re-Programming via VAG-COM is not essential.

Switch on for first time and you'll have to manually enter the code.

Should you disconnect the battery in the future you'll need to enter the code again.

With VAG-COM your code can be stored so no need to keep on entering it.

3. Yes the CD-Changer in the boot just connects.

So you've got the built-in DVD/CD Player, SD Card Slot, 20GB of HD storage plus the 6 CD changer in the boot for your music.

4. My vRS doesn't have the arm rest AUX input so cannot comment on this.

I know this is the wrong area but as we would not be to bothered about the colour of the buttons would any of the units fit a superb

Not essential but recomended.

VCDS/VAG-COM doesn't really have any effect on the entering of the security code, the code is not programmed via VCDS.

A variation of the Columbus is used in the Superb II.
