500 Abarth Colour choice

Featured Replies

I checked out the real price on the Abarth, if you want white & nothing else then its £13600,

If you want to spec it up with a different colour, and the same internal spec as std Sport, no decals, no glass roof, no leather, std wheels. the price is closer to £15500.

Stuart J - how have you specced it up then if its on order ?

We have taken the launch spec car originally ordered last year & only added the red chequer roof which the dealer is sorting.

Car looks exactly like the one in the pictures earlier in the thread. Extras over the basic white car include the side stripes, Scorpion logo on the bonnet, red mirrors, Different alloys (same as the picture) Red Leather with split rear seat, Climate control, Electrochromatic Anti-dazzle rear view mirror. It came in @ about 15,500 OTR.

There are a few launch spec ones floating around due to cancelled orders if you fancy one

The cars currently at the dealers & due to be delivered next week ready to drive on the first :D

The spec was already decided on the launch car, It was what Wendy wanted anyway & it appears factory orders are a lottery. We could "apparently" have jumped the Queue as we orderd the middle of last year but nothing appears certain, some dealers seem to have as many cars as they want, others are on many weeks delivery despite being apparently treated equally. If you want a quick delivery try Jersey or Oxford Street Dealers.

If you happen to make the Goodwood breakfast club on March 1st there will be at least one there with an 09 plate ;)

Stuart, get a copy of this weeks Autocar mag, as they have a roadtest on the Abarth.

Westover who are supplying Wendys Abarth had a customer track day at Goodwood today & invited us down for some laps in their demo car.

We both had a few laps with their demo driver, ex racer, Geoff ?? . In the session I had nothing passed us, When Wendy went out only 2 cars passed them, a McLaren Mercedes & a GT3 RS. Wendy was then allowed a few laps at the wheel, obviously a tadge slower & the gaggle of Porshes & Lotuses were then passing her but she found it very easy to get it to do what was asked of it

The car from the passengers seat feels incredibly well balanced & planted on the road, the brakes despite session after session refused to fade, there was very little tyre squeel. braking was absolutely dead straight & watching the driver there was no fighting the wheel just point & it went where asked.

I think this is a winner, if anyone else gets a chance to get one on the track take it & see what you think, I think you might be pleasantly suprised.

It should be good fun on the track, IIRC it posted a quicker time than an Elise around the Top Gear test track. This was the Essesse version though if that makes much difference.

Any comments on the 500 with respect to day to day use, as youve now had it for a month. Sorry SWMBO's comments ;)

OOoooooo someone else with good taste, I'm going to be buying one of these in less than a year and Paige is going to get my car. Also you have to get the essesse model.

I like the darker White one or this Grey one.

But if they bring a Yellow Abarth 500 out then I will definately get that one :D

Test drove it a few months ago and OMG they do handle really well

I will definately consder one of these come replacement time. Went to the local dealer and checked one out but didn't have one as a demo (only a Punto but couldn't be arsed). I like the car in white with the minimal red Abarth decor and the red leather interior. I think I would want the SS pack though and that bumps the price up a bit.

I didn't see the Top Gear test but that time sounds encouraging. That Harris bloke,(ex Autocar and now Drivers Republic website) was whingeing about an intrusive stability control that you can't turn off however.

Weve done 2500 miles in it now & its an absolute cracker, one of the nicest cars Ive driven in years, you just seem to feel good & get out with a smile on your face. Also everybody else on the road seems to like you. The only downside to everyday driving is parking it, Im always scared some jeoalous **** is going to key it or something.

Build quality is also a revelation, I was expecting typical Italian with bits falling off but it only has one small rattle which the dealer is going to sort. Its certainly ahead of some of the new Skodas we have had

MPG isnt brilliant if thats what you want, probably mid 30's but to be fair we have the sport button permenantly on & tend to thrash it. I did a run in the Cotswolds with a F430, A Porsche GT2, A GT3 Rs, KTM X bow, & a couple of M3's. obviously we couldnt keep up on the straights but it was more than acomplished on the twistie bits.

The car has been a real revelation & really put the fun back into motoring. We are doing another of our European Jollies in June & intend to take the Abarth. 3000 miles in a week including over 1000 in Italy, Im really looking forward to it, I just hope she lets me drive occasionally

Did someone mention remap ;)

Think long & hard before getting the Essesse pack, At £2500 its not neccesarily good value, Ive been at Goodwood where one was doing demo laps all day. It was faster than an Elise in the right hands, the suspension was more than adequate & the brakes never faded despite some serious abuse. The std ride is pretty firm on the road so I personally think a lower & stiffer car would be hard to live with. The Wheels & tyres you get are IMO a bit boy racer ish & some of the alloys offered as an upgrade are a lot nicer. That leaves to performance hike. Now thats worth having but a remap for £400 will give you probably more power than the Abarth upgrade which is likely to be conservative.

Also if you are buying a car on finance its not classed as part of the car but an extra so has to either be paid for cash or borrowed in another way.

Try another dealer, Abarth tried to ensure dealers all had a demo car & each was supplied with 4 cars so they had something somewhere. If you can get to Poole try Westover Sports cars, Make sure you speak to Chris, cracking guy & not full of the usual salesmans brollocks

anyone thinking of buying remember production is limited so if you are serious keep an eye on deliveries, there will only be 700 this year & a few weeks ago 450 were already sold. Im guessing they may up production if they can as sales are so good but with the Pound being crap against the Euro I can see a possible price hike coming

Well, that proves what I originally said; the only possible colours for a 500 Abarth are grey, or grey with red stripes.

Have a read of the latest EVO magazine, they pitch the Abarth against a 205 1.9 GTi, quite a good read.

Sounds great... wonder if it's as twitchy which meant it was chuckable and if so does it have the lift off over steer :D

No monkhai, the lack of lift off due to stability control you can't turn off was what Chris Harris was moaning about on DR.One of his only complaints mind!

hmmmm, my main reason for the essesse pack was because of the warranty etc. Depends how much I want a warranty with them I suppose, Finance I wont be doing so thats no problem. Think I will be buying the car outright when I do.

One good thing about the essesse upgrade is that you don't have to add it to the car straight away, you can wait a year and then turn the car into an essesse.

Anyway my main problem with buying one at the moment is I aint 100% happy with the colour options so waiting it out for a few months with fingers crossed that they release a few more colours

Absolutely stunning motor. Looks gorgeous in that red!

There was one parked round the corner from my house for a while and it had really really fat exhaust on it but they looked good!

Phil

Looks very nice Will.

Fook me!

Stunning little car but that is A LOT of money. Think of what you could have for that!

Take your pick with 30,000 really:

Cars, Cars, Parts Vehicles items at low prices on eBay.co.uk

Lots there I would have over this if money was a factor... if it wasn't I would love that little 500 sat on my drive!
