Calling all 1.9 130 TDi owners, temperature?

Featured Replies

Hi all, This is my first winter with my 1.9 130 TDi and I have noticed it seems to take a while for it to get up to 90 degrees running temperature, I work 10 miles from my home and it is taking 6 - 7 off those to get up to temperature, about 7 or so minutes of driving at an average of 60mph, once it gets to 90 it stabalises and looks normal.

Is this what i should expect? is it a combination of it being so bloody cold when its been sat still, cast block, its a diesel, got heater on full ( which gets hot as quick as usual) drawing heat of coolant, very cold air flowing over the engine whilst driving?

Or is it a sign of something maybe going a miss?

Or am i being paranoid and is it best to wait till it gets warmer to see what happens then?

Cheers all.

I started a thread about this a month or so ago, turns out to be a normal trait on really cold days.

I used to be able to do a 30 minute 17 mile journey on B roads to work without the temperature gauge on my fabia vrs hitting 90 :)

Cheers Browny. suppose I should have searched it first :dunce:

About 3-5 miles in cold weather should do it. If in doubt, replace the thermostat.

i agree 3 miles or so for me on a cold morning

Sounds normal to me..... On my way to work i have to drive around 3 miles to the motorway then another couple of miles on the motorway before it hits 90 degrees.... On the way back home i only travel around three quarters of a mile to the motorway and it warms up quicker... usually around 3 or 4 miles but obviously the engines working harder sooner etc... on the way home.

This is the same in both our vRS's.

Cheers

Dave.

On a freezing morning its usually about 4-5miles for myself, which is usually about 20mins into my commute.

maybe the antifreeze is loosing its strength? was wondering if it would do any harm to release some coolant(cold) and replenish with fresh neat additive and top up to the usual mx mark?

I've never checked the temp guage that closely before, but did so this morning. With an outside temp hovering at slightly below freezing, it took 4 miles and 15 minutes of stop-start commuting to get to 90 degrees. So sounds about right to me

Good job the heated seats warm up quicker ;)

cheers
