Important options you really need

Never use my cruise control but didn't pay for it as it was standard so no biggie: I don't really see any need for where I drive and they sap your fuel economy like something crazy! I find the front sensors and maxidot are very handy, and it's personal but I like my sunroof A LOT.

I get better mpg from my 2.0 DSG TDI with cruise switched ON. I had it retrofitted free at the start of this week as a part of the deal for the car (Octavia Ambiente Estate), but the snow stopped the parts arriving in time

Last week I drove 400 miles - 1 trip mostly motorway at indicated 70 - and got 47mpg. Same trip yesterday with cruise, worse traffic, 50mpg. I found the same over 30k miles in my last Octavia (1.9 TDI Elegance Hatch) You figure!!

If you do big miles on motorways, save your leg and get cruise, it's listed as a £200 item by Skoda and takes an hour to fit.

Xenons are a pain if you go abroad, they have to be adjusted by the dealer.

I had heated seats in an L&K, I wish I still did!!

Parking sensors are a must IMHO, considering the number of people I could have reversed into at Sainsbury's, bithy pedestrians and cars, I'm saving up to have them retro-fitted - all my previous Skodas (6) had them and I really miss them.

I've driven automatics for 20 years and the DSG box is amazing, its far better than any auto or manual I've ever driven - unless your surname is Hamilton (mine is!) and christian name Lewis (sadly not) a DSG box will allow you to out-accellerate most cars from the lights, overtaking or whatever.

I lost climate changing to an Ambiente (I was the only <1 year old model with 2.0 DSG in my price range for 100 miles) I had dual-zone on the last one and miss it "slightly"

Hmm, £200 for retrofit, despite my feelings towards CC, I'm still tempted just for the hell of having something new to play with. But I'm not sure I want it enough to spend £200 :(
