Fixed Title.

it's all to do with emissions apparently, and the fact that diesels CAN be more environmentally friendly than some petrol engines (yeah right).

Count yourself lucky - my Octavia is £210 a year...

What I think is really stupid (although it works in my favour) is that my car, a 1.4 16v regisitered 2.2.01 is only £120 a year whereas the same car with the same engine, same emissions etc registered after 1.3.01 is £170 a year as its based on emissions and engine sizes by that date.

Thats cheap compared to some cars !

Imprezas, evos etc etc are all in the £400 a year price range, my old gti180 would have been £300 for the year !

Glad I got rid :D

My Mum's '08 Audi A3 1.9tdi is £35 a year!!

Actually theres two. One for 1500ish and above which is £210 I believe and one for 1499 (ish) and under which is £120.

Yes, 1.9 TDi "e" 3 door is 119g/km CO2, hence the £35

103 bhp so it shouldn't be too slow

yes you are right , the 1500cc and over was £185 last month when i bought mine, not bad considering its on a 2.5 litre turbo which burns fuel like its going out of fashion and has no catalyst on it :)

Tax should be doen on fuel and fuel only, so the more miles you do, the more you pay.

My SWMBO's uncle has a sweet Jag. Goes out in it maby 2-3 times a year, and does about 300 miles a year, if that. And the road tax is £600 p/a !!! He cant condone paying that.

I totally agree with Lofty's post above, we should only pay fuel tax because the more miles we do the more wear on the roads there is and more pollution is created. This was why the fuel tax was created. I still think we should have a MOT/insurance disc on the windscreen. Would you get into a car driven by an uninsured driver? I certainly would not.

All those in favor say "i".

misread ignore :(
