Using pull-through car wash with DSG box

Featured Replies

Has anyone had experience of using pull-through car washes with a car fitted with a DSG transmission?

These type seems to be becoming more popular and generally give good results but my previous vehicles were manual gearboxes so the issue of use did not arise. I have heard an auto box can run through fine in Neutral but there was a query over whether the engine should be kept running to supply oil to the box during movement. Can anyone confirm their own experience please?

No problems, just put it N and the car will go through just fine, just the same as a normal auto box would. Just dont use P and all will be well.

Dont use these car washes though as they will just scratch your car up to buggery

^ what Stuart said, do not use these type of car washes!

You wouldn't wash yourself in someone else's dirty bathwater would you?

Anyone see C5's Fifth Gear on this subject the other week ? "Manual" hand washes were a big "no, no" as sponges get dropped on the floor and then the content of the sponge from the floor gets transferred to the paintwork, jet washes damage the paintwork by virtue of the force used so the good old car wash where you park up and the thing rolls over it, came out the best. I've used one of these pull through ones and hated it. Scratched my wheels too, but the local "roll over" does a cracking job, and all for £3. I used Park in it, for the record.

The dropped sponge is not different to the drive through car wash, it's still scraping dirt all over your car!

Does everyone not wash their car like this?

If you want your car to stay in good nick then you need to look after it. Is it worth it? Well I've just been paid £8k for my 4.25 year old Mark 1 Superb (January) and the dealer has just sold it for £8.5k.

Well said' date=' Chris! I got a cracking price for my Octy because I'd looked after it. Here's another site along the same lines as your link.

Car detailers may come across as OTT or fanatics, but their principles of car washing are well worth looking at, in order to keep a good finish. :)
