What to do if being chased?

Featured Replies

Hey there folks.

Just something that occured to me while in the shower this morning

Some time ago now when living in Settle I was driving back from Lancaster and overtook a couple of cars on a long stretch of road and then the car at the back that I had just overtaken overtook the car behind me and proceeded to sit up my chuffer!

I slowed down a bit for a big bend and to give myself some time to think for him! and he didn't like this one bit.

Him and his young chavy passenger were shouting and flapping there arms around... so knowing the roads I got me foot down and got some distance on the hills and then he cought back up and was signaling for me to pull over (yeh right mate! :finger:).

So again got me foot down and kept it down (thank god he was only in a little pug 206 1.4 probably) and kept it on his toes.. managed to loose him in the end by knowing the roads and then zipping down a side road and going the back way home.

Question is... what should one do in a situation like this?

I had thought about pulling into a layby on the way and waiting till they were out the car and speeding back off :P.

Perhaps I should have phoned the police and then just pulled into the station in Settle and see if he followed ;).

Phil

Pull over, remove length of 2"x4" from boot..............

:iagree: or use a gun...

tbh if i were in that situation i would pull over and ask the geezer what he wanted but i don't recommend doing that, just go to a built up area or find somewhere where there are people about.. if in doubt ring the cozzers i'd say

A similar thing happened to me once, but he was in a V6 Ford Galaxy, me in an original Panda 999cc. It happened on the road back from Whitby to Scarborough, in the winter at about 10pm. I knew the road well and eventually did the old trick of getting some distance between us, pulling swiftly into a line of parked cars once we reached civilisation and switching the lights off. Scary moment and not one I'd like to repeat.

I got the idea of hiding in plain view from the Italian Job.:D

Just drive normally, he will soon get fed up

Best thing to do is go 360degrees around a roundabout and then on to wherever you're going. If they follow you doing that then they are actually following you and not just trying to pass you. I would then drive towards the nearest town and call the Police on my mobile.

I used to work for a bank and we were told that if we were followed to drive to the nearest police station, or to call the cops. We were also told if we saw an accident going to or from work not to stop and to call the police as soon as we could. Apparently people had chased staff and there had been an accident staged to get a staff member to stop. I worked in a rather secure processing centre and people occasionally had a go at the amoured vans going in and out, only thing was they didn't actually contain any money!

I guy I used to know upset two skinheads in a mini who started chasing after him, he panicked and ended up in a dead end. The two skinheads got out of their car with a baseball bat, smashed all his windows then left.

If they don't look hard I just try to annoy them as much as possible, speeding up then going slowly.

If the car is significantly slower than mine, I like to drag it out as long as possible.

Then laugh.

call the police and head to a public lit place like a 24 hour petrol forecourt.

If you know where there is one, make for the nearest Police station as fast as you dare.

Otherwise I'd agree with SMS.

Providing you can find one open that is:

Good advice in theory about the Police Stations BUT remember not all Police Stations are open 24 hours. If you're in a big city then yeah the majority will be but the last thing you want is to pull up outside a rural Police Station and find the doors locked with the Officers 10 miles away at a serious incident. It should be enough to scare the baddy away but if they're really determined and don't care about being arrested then they'll have no reservations about assaulting you on the doorstep of the nick.

Better to check that you really are being followed then call 999. At least they will be able to tell you where to go and what to do.

Just beat me to it there Dave!!!

One other thing though. The opening times refer to the front office reception. Generally Police Officers will be working inside those stations 24 hours, they're just not able to deal with everyone who walks in off the street as well as the paperwork they're on with at the same time. So if you're mobileless it's still worth a try if there's nowhere like a 24hr garage.

GREAT!!! :thumbdwn:

Reminds me of an episode of the Simpsons, actually...

The main theory is to swerve wildly and then loop 360 degrees so that you are now behind and chasing them.

a65? lol, i wanna know who the lil chavs were... what did they look like, ill probably know them!

ill sort them out for you.... these roads are ruled by the yellow octy vrs of mine....

I had this once - some idiot in a Landrover - and he overtook me and tried pinning me in - luckily my maneuoveable little felicia went around him and I shot off, luckily he gave up following. I was shaking for hours after the incident!

reposted (i think from here), but this could work:
