Hired a Vette, the report........

Featured Replies

Hi All, I've been out in Florida for a little hol and as a birthday gift the wife said I could hire a Vette.

Well what can I say...................

First of all I know what Topgear think of Vette's (Leafsprings, fiberglass etc) and this car cost my wife a lot of cash so it had a lot to live up to.........

I'm a Porsche man at heart (I even have Porsche trainers..........:lol:) but when I win the lottery there is going to be a Vette parked outside my Villa in Florida becaus this car was AWESOME to say the least, I don't drive a fast car and never really have before so for all the people who drive something this fast daily I envy you!

Yes she is made in America by some fat bloke named Earl and not crafted in Italy (I stole most of that line from JC!!) but this Vette made me feel like a kid with a new toy everytime I sat in it!

I'll try and sum it up.........

The power = Instant face lift, The wife looked 21 again..... (I hope she doesn't read this!!) It was Auto so I missed the clutch control but she could fly and having the dual mode exhaust ment the sound was awesome, I would slow down just so I could boot it again!

The looks = Vette's always look kind of cool but now I've looked at it for a few weeks I've fallen in love.................:o:o:lol:

Take the top off and she looks even better (The tops fits in the trunk.....;))

MPG = I was not worried about this as I did not care really but I've done over 1800 miles and averaged 24.1 MPG!!!! I think this is because at motorway speeds it rev's at 1.5rpm (Just above tick over).

I think the thing I liked the most how user friendly it was (Apart from getting in and out!) I drove two 400 miles stints and still felt refreshed when I got out, the seats were fantastic.

I'll stop boring you now and get on with some pic's..............

I also experienced something I never thought I would do in Florida......................

A car covered in FROST!!!! Yes frost.............:doublesho

I said to the wife "did we pack the Ice scraper??".............

Sorry for going on a bit but I have to give it back in a few hours so I'm gutted. I'll have to start saving for next year.

Thanks for reading.

Howard.

Vette? Made me cringe every time I read it.

Nice car though

I take it that Billy Bob's figured out that people really don't want a car that can spin whilst parked then?

Lovely car!

Just been in Florida myself and it was bloody cold wasn't it!?

Would love to hire a Vette over there. Or even a Mustang so it's got a seat for my daughter - as long as it was a V8. Bit of a fan of American muscle and anything with a V8 (or at a push V6) soundtrack.

As it was I had a Ford Edge SUV which was nice. Quite a good looking car (for an American SUV at least) and pretty comfy and roomy enough for 4 adults, 1 kid and 5 suitcases. Pretty quick considering its size - has a 265BHP 3.5V6 but brings a whole new meaning to body roll - my Fabia 2 felt like a go-kart when I got back!

Had a V6 Mustang last year. Not a bad little car, would have liked leather as aposed to cloth seats.................................

(and if you need accomodation in Florida, I know of a nice place, reasonable rates..............PM for details)

going to vegas soon and i've booked a dodge charger :D

Who did you book that with Bengie??

carhire3000 :)

Looks great fun - I'd love to have one of those for a few weeks.

And it was in the bestest colour! Result.

That LS3 V8 is meant to be a pretty good lump - lightweight as well for a change.

Nice

I love them. Dunno why, I just do. Might be the noise....... I have wanted one ages though lol

You know what they say; it takes Mopar to catch Mopar.

It'd have to be a viper for me.

You know what they say; it takes Mopar to catch Mopar.

sorry but that makes no sense to me :)

sorry but that makes no sense to me :)

I forget what Mopar stands for, but they make/made Dodge and Plymouth cars (and trucks), and it meant that they were so fast that if you were driving a Ford or GM car you might as well forget racing the guy in the Mopar muscle.

Mopar is short for 'Motor Parts', which is the parts division of Chrysler. THat particular line was a quote from the 90s remake of Vanishing Point, when the cop sets off after Kowalski's Challenger in a Charger.

I remember that line appearing in Vanishing Point (1990s, and IMO the better version of the film), but I'm sure that wasn't the first time I'd heard it!

Does anyone know if the Camaro is a cheap alternative to the Corvette, you can pickup a 5.7l off ebay for just a few grand, shame they are LHD only though.

I never understood the difference between the two, always thought the Camaro was supposed to be cheaper

The Corvette is unique as "America's (mass-produced) Sportcar", and is a strict 2-seater; the Camaro has (AFAIK) always been a 2+2, and was introduced as a sales rival to the early Ford Mustang.

right, got ya :)

Camero is a cheap Firebird.
