Eibachs & Speed Bumps ?

Featured Replies

any issues whatsoever with speed bumps when fitting Eibachs ?

ive asked about lowering before but need a definitive answer on this particular question from as many experiences as possible

if no answer by saturday evening, i'll let you know!!

I am getting my Eibachs fitted on saturday morning, and have to go over 2 speedbumps to get to my house, so will find out how they react!!

Well yes & no

I had Eibachs on mine from about 10k onwards, and it has never been an issue. There are places in Newbury where they have crazy-height speedbumps and you do have to significantly slow down for those, but then stock you'd have to as well, those things are massive.

The Eibachs didnt have a problem clearing the rather steep ramps in the company car park/garage either, I don't think I could lower it much more though without problems.

I got Koni FSDs fitted at some stage to replace the Eibach dampers and that made the ride better still, but the Eibach ones are not bad either :)

My advice is avoid the speed bumps if you can?

I didnt have any issues going over speed bumps when I had the Eibachs and OE dampers fitted. I never go fast over any speed bump.

On coilovers and all i do is split them if they're those stupid hump ones... wouldn't like to run right over them as the vrs sump is low ;)

^^^^^

what he said, i can get over most speed bumps but have come across villages i will never enter again unless my life depended upon it!

i do generally avoid them and i never go over them quickly but i really dont want any issues at all ... with my last car it wouldnt clear the majority full stop so its quite nice now not being limited on where i go ... plus the main road that the girlfriends street is off is full of them so ive no choice really sometimes ... Ive seen some 20mm springs but in reality they probably lower the same but wont be the same quality of product

are you not risking dented sills by doin that

i have had eibachs on for over a year with standard shocks and a cupra front splitter, never had a problem at all obviously the slower u can go over the speed bumps the better but never a problem,

the sills clear fine when doing this, i've driven many (stupidly) lowered cars over these humps and its the only way to clear them. if you go straight over you risk grounding (which i've also done in more than one car).

What he said /\

Yip the sumpguard sits waaaay low on the vrs, i was even bottoming out on Eibachs... also if you 'split' them you only hit the edge of the bumps so aint at the highest point anyway

are the sills not lower than the floor ?

I have Eibach springs and dampers and dont find its a major problem if I split the hump and take it slow on the mega large ones, but the majority of normal humps you can just go over them. I have grounded the sump a couple of times... that horrible feeling when you know its coming and you just sit there cringing, waiting for the scraping noise. If I was any lower Id have to get a sump guard I reckon

i think the floor is slightly lower, not 100% sure on that but when you go over the speedbump directly, the highest point is underneath the car, when you cross in between two, then the highest points are not under your car so the bump wont do any damage.

hmmm interesting, i think some testing may be in order lol

Will also report back later when I can - collecting the car today after Eibach and FSDs being fitted!

No problems whatsoever with speed bumps with mine on Eibachs and standard dampers. I have to go over speed bumps to get to my house, and can take them at around the same speed as i di with the standard set up, although it is a bit firm.

Ride is re-assuringly firm, and much much better than standard in my opinion!

Do you not find it underdamped with the standard shocks? How many miles have you made it with standard dampers, and how many do you think you have left before they need replacing?

Mine manages speed humps even wound down on coil overs. Its a bit of a mystery hw it doesnt rub or ground out more than it does. The only issue is has is the tow bar catching on the way off sometimes.

presume the Eibachs keep most of the OE comfort

The annoyances of lowering!

I havent even gone as low as id like - due to my place of work's monster speed bumps! And speed bumps are a major issue. For the little ones, its ride up to them, come to a stop and slowly roll over. For those split ones, its take them with a wheel over each!

You get well p***ed off . . . But you get use to it! Its a shame drivers behind you dont know whats going on . . . They get well p***ed off!

i dont care about other people, its my car and ill go over them as slow as i want hehe !

Exactly my thoughts! ;)

underdamped?!!

I must have done about 9k on them since fitting (I have done 7k since april, so it's a rough guesstimate) but no idea when I will need to replace them...I'll wait for the car to tell me it's time!! :o
