Heated rear window

Featured Replies

In the manual it states that the rear screen heater switches of after a few minutes. Well I thought I would find out how many minutes. It was on for 20 mins and still working - I had finished my journey and so switched ignition off. All my other cars went off after about 6 mins. can anyone confirm how long it should be to switch off automatically - or do I have a fault. I can remember to switch it off manually - but the MISSUS??????? Thats another story.

I'm not sure if mine actually does switch itself off as i turn it off once the screen has cleared, it's never turned itself off.

Thanks Gizmo - Thats what I always do as it is usually clear within 5/6 mins. BUT it does state in the manual it does switch off automatically after a few minutes. BUT then the manual has been wrong before has it not?

The simple solution is not to let my other half use the car when the rear screen is misted or covered in water - wonder how she will react to that little gem of wisdom?

The screen heater definitely switches itself off on my base 05 model Superb. As I've had to switch it back on 3 times during a 2 hour journey in appalling weather, I'd rather it just did as it was told...

I will try again when I have a longer journey to make. I don't think I'm brave enough to share my thoughts with the wife about her not using the car when misted or wet back window.

Mine doesn't turn itself off, waited similar times to 20 mins or so and it is still lit up.

Mine turns itself off ............. eventually ( if I forget). Probably not for at least 20 minutes though, probably nearer half an hour.

mine switches of automatic too. dont know if its a temp sensor. but takes some time.

Yes, it does switch off - eventually, probably about 20 mins but I've never timed it

So, like me, you have no problem with the wife using it . (Now the indicator switch in her Mini turns off after a while, but the window stays on - at reduced power? - for a bit longer:confused:)

On the topic of things turning off automatically - why doesn't that happen with all fog lights when the ignition/lights are turned off. I'm fed up with the boy racers/grannies driving round with them turned on for days after that 5-minute drizzle. The VAG lightswitch works fine for this.
