New Car with fault codes

Featured Replies

Got a newer Octavia II, a 57 plate had it a week now and thought I would plug it into laptop to search for fault codes (thinking wont be any only had it a week). How surprised were I when I found 4 fault codes. Can anyone help me with the fault codes before I go to Bickertons on Monday. Just a brief description of the fault please:thumbup:. Have searched Ross-Tech wiki and can only find explanation for 001135 so am really in the dark for the other 3. Thanx in advance Dave.

Leave the codes on for bickertons to see.

The Engine one is a little odd.

The Interior Monitoring is normal if the door is open during scanning.

Central Locking and Tank Flap should be looked at and may be connected. IIRC the drivers door is the 'master' unit.

Not sure about the Alarm Horn.

It looks like you have a central locking/ central convenience unit problem. Have you noticed any unusual behaviour with the elec windows, alarm, or locking? I'm not very familiar with the Octavia II, but have had similar issues with the Mk I. If there is an LED on the drivers door, check to see if stays lit while the car is being driven. If the car is under warranty, tell the garage that there seems to be a central convenience problem. On the Mk I the central convenience unit & loom is prone to water damage at the connector, could be a similar problem in the Mk II?

I am in Bickertons at the mo, have showed service manager my printout of the fault codes. His reply was unless the engine management light is on there is not alot he can do. He also stated that the five fault codes may not be relevent for my car (my car may not have those sensors so will show up faults) is this right!!!!

What the mileage? The scan says 9730km at the top and the engine code happened at at 9370km, so that might have happened while you've had the car or post PDI.

The 01135 can be as stu said, and if not can no doubt be fixed under warranty, and the alarm horn could be related, perhaps the alarm itself has lost the plot, or perhaps the car had a flat battery. The alarm horn showing 9003km suggests that was fairly recent which might support the flat battery theory.

The tank flap one, I didn't think the Octy II had an electronic tank flap, so maybe that's coded incorrectly. Other option is the locking pin to the lock has been disconnected in the boot. It's pretty easy to get and and reconnect. To check this, leave the fuel filter flap open and lock the car. You should get a metal locking pin come out and if you don't then that is a fault.

Regarding what they have said, no. If the car doesn't have the sensors, then the options should not be coded in. If the car is showing the fault then it expects the sensor to be there.

As for nothing he can do, rubbish, he could scan it, log it, clear it and say come back in a week to see what is still there.

 - You gotta laugh at these boys.

Ask them to put it on VAS and diagnose the problems.

It is possible. When I had my issues on the Mk1 there were about 14 codes, lots of which were for equipment that was not in my car (electric memory seats, etc.). Of all the codes, I think 2 were relevant to my problem.

It seemed that the convenience unit became schizophrenic, and thought it was a Bentley or something equally grand.

the horn one is linked to the steering wheel and might need the steering wheel setting looked at to make sure the right code was entered on pdi.

I cleared all the fault codes down and touch wood they have not returned all except the engine fault:confused:. The engine fault was there straight away, does anyone think its related to my mpg as I am only getting mid 30`s knocking around where as with my other Octavia II 2.0tdi pd dsg was getting mid 40`s knocking around:confused:.

I don't like the look of that engine one.

Perhaps email Ross-Tech and see if they can shed any light on it.

I am worried now stu:eek:

Perhaps nothing to worry about however the fact that it remains in place after clearing would indicate a fault.

Just emailed ross-tech, so perhaps they can shed some light on it. Stu would this fault be related to a loud whistling turbo when engine is cold (like a fire engine). and not so loud but very noticable when engine is warm and very poor mpg mid 30`s when I was getting mid 40`s to high 40`s from last Octavia same engine and gearbox?

Difficult to say. So long as that fault shows on VAS then they cannot argue that something is not right. However it would be nice to know something about it and be forwarned.

No real surprise if you're using a version which is older than the car you're working on. :) Download the latest version from our website and run a new scan, then post the result please.

Just a quick update on this thread, car has now been into Bickertons and the fault showed up on there equipment. But wait for it they dont know whats wrong with the car, so they have made a report and sent it to skoda. They should hear something within 3 days.

But if they dont know what is wrong with the car how come they know they will need it for 3 days to repair. And what repair takes at least 3 days?

I would suspect that the 3 days is to allow for the reply to the DIS report.

Skoda may also come back and ask them to test/check something so it's prudent to keep the car to hand.

Just an update the car goes back to Bickerton on Wednesday for the engine malfunction fixing. They say its a internal oil temp sensor?

Would this affect my mpg as I am only getting mid 30`s where as before I was getting mid 40`s from my last Octavia II with the same engine, gearbox, spec?

An yet another update, Bickertons have had the car all day to fix the engine malfunction. They have replaced the internal oil temp sensor, and the engine malfunction is still there. So are sending another report to skoda and waiting for a reply. Cant fault Bickertons at all well just one tiny grumble not been offered a loan car. This is my 3rd Skoda but the 1st with any kind of problem at all.

Come on guys anyone shed any light on this fault, Stu u any ideas?

Sorry missed this as the email wasn't working from here.

Can you do another Autoscan with the latest version of VCDS - the Beta is ideal and post up the results.

Sorry stu cant rescan with the latest software at the mo.

But another update for you Skoda have been in touch with Bickertons and the car goes in again Wednesday for the full day. They think it may be a problem with the wiring loom now?

Am a bit fed up really have only had the car 4 weeks, think I have bought a right lemon. What do you think I should do? Should I stick with the car as I have spent £200 on the windows blacked out, or ring Skoda to have a go at them. Anyone with any advice please.

You have to allow them reasonable opportunity to fix the car.

This fault has been with the car since day 1 of my ownership, and its crippling my mpg I am only just getting 400 miles to a tank full of fuel whereas before with my other Octavia II (same engine, gearbox, spec, except new one is an estate) i was getting well over 500 sometimes 550 to a tank full. And I am driving the new car very carefully. Any ideas anyone?
