removed door strips today and

Featured Replies

removed the door strips today from my 06 fabia vrs and at the front of all four doors there are bubbles under the paint under where the bump strips were

is this common? will this be covered under warranty? i wouldnt want the doors painted as it might never be the same again or different shade ect, what i think i will have to do is buy some new bump strips, colour code them and stick them back on! i dont want them black hence why i removed them:(

Very common I'm afraid. Probably due to the glue they use on the bump strips reacting with the clear coat.

one word for you.......warenty:thumbup:

That's not a word

Mine was bubbled and the dealer was a little reluctant to try a warranty claim as they said Skoda might say I was attempting to alter the car from OE spec. We agreed that they would state that the strips had started to come away by themselves and the paint defect was noticed whilst trying to repair it. I had both doors resprayed and it looks fine.

Stick them back on lol

That sounds like a nice dealer relationship you have, i get the feeling not many would agree to pay for stuff like that.

Same happened with Wiebos Estate, I have now bought a new set and they are being sorted :)

Not really, I'm just a difficult person to argue with :D

ill call the dealers tomorrow, if they agree to re-paint the doors i will ask if they will just paint the door strips and stick them back on as i dont want to have the doors painted and it would be cheaper for skoda:rolleyes:

I very much doubt they'll do that.

yup mine did the same. But as they were going back on anyway I ignored it and stuck new ones over the top. need to get a load of work done on her so chances are whole car will end up being sprayed at some point.

Snap! Three of my doors have bubbles, the bubbles on my ns rear door have gone through, my car is just over 2 years old, might take it back but probably not worth the hassle, ive been quoted £240 to get all four doors resprayed and the grill colour coded.

So can the bumpstrips be painted easily enough then?

I was going to just remove them and paint the door handles, but if they'll take a decent paint finish then so much the better.

Plastic can be awkward to paint. You need a special primer as used on bumpers, then the paint of your choice. Probably cheaper in the long run to have a local body shop paint them.

I bought a new set, £24 from skoda i think. Then just painted them off the car and swapped them over. Needed a high build primer and a bit of prep work to get rid of the plastic dimpley effect?

Removing the door strips on my last car was the single worst decision I have ever made with regards to car modification ever and I will never ever attempt such a thing again.

1) They were a ****er to get off

2) The glue underneath was a ****er to get off

3) Despite my best efforts using a softend store card, plenty of lubrication and tar remover it left hundreds of small scratches

4) There was a big dent underneath one

5) The laquer had gone cloudy underneath one side and I broke my Mums hairdryer sitting in the garage for hours evaporating the trapped moisture (it did work in the end though)

6) Getting new ones painted cost about £50 and I ended up putting them on wonky
