Traffic Cops TV, 5,9 - Octy vRS

Featured Replies

Just been watching Traffic Cops on BBC1 - one of these watch the police video action with commentary etc, based in S Yorkshire. First piece was a chase of some thieves who had broken into a house, then nicked the car - an Octy vRS. Sheffield - anyone on here??

It was an unmarked 150mph Volvo, and the Octy got away. Not sure whether to cheer for the Octy looking so good, or boo as the thieves obviously were caning it before it was abandoned - poor owner

It got lots of mentions in the commentary though, and will have made a few people sit up and listen I am sure

I just saw it too, think thats a repeat as i'm sure I have seen that chase before.. left him for dust but it's probably, like the cop said, because they have no regard for people around them or the car. :(

I've got this stored on my PVR , so I'll have a nose tomorrow , but the police volvos aren't the fastest things on the road my any means.

They are heaby cars to start with before they get a boot full of kit , and don't forget the police will have been showing a bit more common sense than the thieves.

Tis a repeat.

As i recall the scrotes went off-road and plod was unable or not allowed to pursue.

Must be the 3rd or 4th time they've shown this one.

Didn't realise it was a repeat, so I stand corrected. Police driver was being rather more careful driving, but was still shifting it...

I have managed to miss this chase a second time! I heard on here last year or whenever that it had been on, got in last night and turned on the telly, saw that programme was on, turned it on, just missed the Octy! Does anyone know if there is a video rip of this on the net somewhere? Would like to see if just for interest.

Cheers,

Damo

ditto to that!

I watched the first bit of it this morning while eating my cornflakes , and the volvo was having to work very hard to keep up.

It was only when they skoda went offroad that they really pulled away as the volvo was being driven a lot more sensibly at that point.

I *might* be able to capture it if it doesn't show up on the net

Kent Police are changing from using 2.0 Petrol Pug 406's to using Octy vRS Estates, the diesel 1.9 406's are changing to Pug 1.9 diesel 307 Estates. These cars are all used by the 'bobbies on the beat'. The traffic cops are still using Volvos, and are upset because the octy is (just) quicker. Contrary to common belief, all cars are standard, the vRS Octys driving around kent do look rather nice. Only trouble they are having with them are that they often get 'sumped' over speed humps, especially on persuits.

Not all police cars are standard , although the majority are.

ammendment.. when I say 'all cars are standard' I am referring to the marked patrol cars, which are indeed all standard. sorry for lack of clarity..

I seem to remember seeing that chase the first time around.

If my memory serves me correctly the policeman in question didn't have a clue about the Octy vRS and was some what surprised when the Octy vRS kept pulling away from him.

It was only later that someone obviously informed him of the credentials of the Octy vRS

Hi Ocstevia. The Octys certainly take bends better than the V70 T5s, which roll about a lot more, but in a straight line the T5 has the edge over a standard Octy. Octy therefore quicker A-B through the lanes but not on a motorway run! My remapped Octy IS quicker than a T5, however, it is of course a lot lighter.

I was recently shown a cracked sump from an Octy which hit a speedbump too fast. The driver didn't stop until the engine conked due to a total lack of oil. Luckily for him it only required a new sump, oil and filter and he wasn't billed for a new engine!

wish I had the courage and cash to remap my octy, too sxards to lose warranty at the moment... the kit that the traffic cops carry in the boot is very heavy, the kit the octy has in it is no so heavy, as a result, believe it or not, the octy even has the edge over the T5 in Kent on the motorway. (only just though!). I have witnessed such. Nice thought eh?!

you are about to have P.M. !

... and I can imagine what it says ;):D

Hello Simon

Has anyone managed to locate a video clip of this chase yet?? Also (could have sworn I mentioned this years ago???), I was wondering if there were any thougts of creating a forum just for the purposes of posting links to video clips/pics etc of interesting stuff, so that when one wants to find something like this clip that one of you kind ppl out there host somewhere, you could go to one central resource and find it more easily. What do you think mod's (and you rockers for that matter :) )

Damo

Had to laugh at the "PC ...'s Volvo is no match off road to a car with rally credentials" comment (para-phrased). Just imagine if it had been a 4x4 with extra ground clearance! :D

good idea that, the clio forum I used to use had a media section with pictures/video's.

Anynews on the video?

Just out of interest is it a Tivo that you use?

I had a quick look , and it appears I haven't connected up the cables for the video in to my PC since I moved house.

I'll see if I can find the leads to do this tomorrow.

Oh , and not a Tivo , but a Humax PVR8000T which is a similar sort of thing but with a freeview decoder built in.

[Thread take over] Is the Humax PVR8000T better than a Tivo, I'm in the market for PVR, after we turned the power off and the VCR refusing to turn on [/Thread take over]

Well Tivo's you can only get second hand now and at stupid prices as well.

The Humax is a very nice bit of kit , but it only has a single digital tuner so you can't watch one channel while recording another (unless you watch an analogue signal).

The twin tuner PVR9000 is out out around christmas although a few other manufacturers do them already.

Have a look here http://www.pvruk.co.uk/ for some reviews and stuff

I wouldn't be without mine now as it makes life so much easier to be able to scan through the program guide and pick out the programs you might want to watch.

I have the episode on TiVo. I can extract it, but I have so little time this week, don't hold your breath for anything soon.
