Door skirt - is this standard?

Featured Replies

Hello

My octavia II has a plastic door "skirt" that has made damage to the paint and now rust is beginning. (see uploaded/attached image)

The "skirt" is attached by double sided tape and I suspect that this "skirt" is something the dealer installed :)

How is your octy, do you also have a "skirt" that damages the paint? Also water hides beneath the "skirt", so I have to come up some new solution, that can last for years.

PS. the car is over 3 years old and there's no warranty.

Cheers, thanks for the great forum

Looks to me like the sill protector need lifting and refitting - depending on the model, this was either fitted at the factory, or retro fitted by the dealer. If retro fitted you need to ensure that all wax etc is removed before fitting the protectors - what's happening on the other side?

My 2005 Elegance does not have those.

I don,t have those either on mine.If it were me i would take them off.

Thanks

On the right door the paint seems intact, so only 1 door has this problem so far :)

Lifting sounds like a good idea. But if the elegance is delivered without the protectors, I also consider to remove the protectors. It seems they do more damage than good, considering the paint damage and water accumulation underneath the protectors.

I had the 4x4 version of the sill protectors reto-fitted to all four doors on my old Octy II 4x4, even though one had started to lift slightly, there was no damage to the paint work. I'd rather they fitted and keep an eye on them for signs of lifted than getting the sills scratched when getting it/out. The Scout comes with them as standard (albeit on the front doors!), but I'll still keep checking them every so often.

I had them fitted by a dealer, as a passenger I took daily couldn't manage to lift their feet when getting in. Mine are the stainless insert versions, but otherwise the same as yours.

Certainly not standard fit on an elegance.

Are you sure the damage wasn't there first and somebody retro fitted them to cover up some damage?
