Three under 4's in the octy

Featured Replies

Evening all.

I will shortly need to accomodate three under 4's in my Mk.I Octavia,

Eldest is nearly 4, then just over two, and a new born.

Any suggestions most greatfully received!!

Thanks

Well, the boot is fairly big, so just give them a sleeping bag each and leave them to it. If they do look a bit cramped you could always fold the back seats down to give them more room, a bit of light. They'd probably have room to play quite nicely then, especially if you take the parcel shelf out.

get some seatcovers

otherwise bye bye white bits

what white bits? The eldest two have been regular occupants, I've had the car from new.

Thanks for this. £1400 as required - looks like a fortune but considering my Octy is now worth under £3k, £4.5k doesn't buy very much. My Octy has been good to me as well so no hurry to change it!

I also found out that Skoda offered some very compact seats but they've been discontinued.

Cheers

I just posted the link because I remember Ed doing the website.

I've no experience with the product - and my kids are too old for it now.

Having had a futher look, I found this

Is Multimac Legal?

Yes: It has been tested and approved to the latest European Standard EU 44-04 where its results were dramatically better than the specified requirements.

As the first multiple child seat' date=' it has probably been subjected to more scrutiny than any child seat in history, including BSI, TRL, VCA, British government, European government, Swedish Road Administration and VTI.

The Insurance Companies have been notified that it will be available, and have given their approval, acknowledging that it does actually increase the number of passengers carried in a car, and welcoming its contribution to enhanced child safety.

You do however have to notify your insurer that you are using a Multimac: you will then be covered in any eventuality, and if your Multimac is stolen, or damaged in an accident, it will be replaced.

Britain’s largest Insurer has actually positively endorsed it.[/quote']

Of course I'd would do more than just read their sales patter if I was in the market for one, but it does sound pretty convincing.

@ Gadgetman - just out of interest do you have any specific concerns?

Yup, which insurers? Do you need to declare? Proximity of kids to doors/each other

In event of side impact, who gets squashed?

They have an endorsement from Norwich Union on this page, and reports of extensive crash testing.

It also quotes the Association of Britsih Inurers saying its members won't charge extra premiums, but says you should declare.

Having 3 under 6 in my car - all I can suggest is seat covers from day 1.

AllTorque - what seats do you have?

Well I have a 5 year old, a 1 Year old, a 15 year old and a 20 year old. Not all go in the car at the same time as the 20 year old is hardly at home these days, and as child seats take up more room generally than adults it is still tight with the other 3 in the back. Will I get rid of the VRS , not likely.

I purchased a cheap Toyota Estima last year to ferry kids around when they are all at home. This then doubles up a junk shifter and home shopping cart, oh and the mother in law ferry.:)

This is GREAT - but what seats do you have please?

Britax booster seats.. The ones that look like mini bucket seats.

OP I've a Britax booster seat and a Britax Trio in the back of mine and I sincerely doubt it would be feasible to fit another child seat in the back. We got a Citroen Xsara Picasso when our third arrived, as very few cars have enough width to allow two child seats and another person (or three child seats for that matter) in comfort and safety. Sorry if that's not what you wanted to hear.

Thanks. I'm sure you're right - looking at a Touran tomorrow. No idea where the money is going to come from though.

Tourans are, I'd imagine, quite expensive still. FWIW my experience of the Picasso has been positive and they are very inexpensive to buy now. I'd get a diesel but other than that would be happy to get another.
