Sweat Stained Seats!

Featured Replies

I'm a bit embarrassed really, i'm getting quite a bit of a sweat stain on the creamy/white part of the drivers seat and it doesn't seem to matter what upholstery cleaner i use it just seems to make it worse! - does anyone know of any product thats good for getting sweat stains out?

The reason for the sweat is my own fault as im a powerlifter and when finished in the gym instead of going in the shower i just go home for a bath instead, lol.

Either sit on a towel, or go for full leather :)

Use some of that spray on vanish stain remover or similar stuff from the supermarket. Just make sure you do the whole silver fabric panel and not just the stain otherwise when it dries it leaves a watermark in the shape of the stain and you have to do it again :)

do you get a sweaty ar$e after lifting weights then?

Thanks for the quick replys - and yes i do get a sweaty **** when lifting weights but not as much as when i do the cardio afterwards. Bench = 227.5 kilo, squat = 222.5 kilos, Deadlift = 322.5 kilos. i'm not in it for fun, i just like to hurt my body.

I just used a cleaner by "Groom", it got a ot of stains that the old bill had left on the floor and seats.

wear a nappy

Something like a vax carpet cleaner/washer (using the hose attachments)will help remove the stains - after it it is predominantly the salt content of sweat that causes the stains.

Alterntvely use a solution of diluted carpet cleaner I think something like 1001??? will do and let it dry and then vacuum the seat.

It is possible to get new OEM seat covers - but these are a fag to fit.

Groom is good if the seat gets wet enough with it. For all future sweaty occasions use a towel!

Cheers

I found that Turtle Wax premium upholstery cleaner to be very effective. I used it neat on all the white carpet/cloth the first time as the seats were pretty grubby but then diluted the remainder to 50% just for keeping on top of things. However, as it's been too cold really to do it properly over winter and I've been grubbier getting in, I think the first proper detail of the year may well need the full strength solution again.

tart  i can lift all 3 added together!!!!!!!!! powerlifter my backside:D

amazing what a forklift can pick up

I had tried the spray on upholstry cleaners, and wiping off. This seemed to work for a while, but water stains badly after a few cleans.

I invested in a wet & dry vac 2 weeks ago (Aldi special for €59:thumbup:) and used some Aldi stain pre-treatment neat on the seats, vacuumed off after 30 seconds. Then I squirted water onto the seats to rinse and vacuumed (3 or 4 times). The seats now look like new.

hi mate,

try shout spray....bough it at tescos and its not expensive, one of the guys on here suggested it and its the best spray i have used to clean seats, worked a treat on mine when i bought the car!

I bought some Tesco upholstery cleaner....

If you secretly like the look of grubby seats but want to be seen trying to do something about it, then this is the stuff for you!

I second that:thumbup:

Spray the whole area of the material seat with it.

Vanish spray is also just as good

Shout spray sounds like the future, i'll get that i think. Cheers everyone!

We have the same car with the same sort of problem. If it's a persistent stain, you need extraction cleaning. We use Autoglym interior shampoo sprayed on (watch the leather). Leave for a few seconds then soak with a very damp clean sponge. Then immediately afterwards, vacuum the whole lot with some form of wet/dry vacuum cleaner to remove the liquid. You have to remove it, or the staining salts remain there. Might take a couple of goes. It should then dry overnight.

The thing that worries me about shout is that its designed as a pre wash treatment and says on the lable to never let it dry out.

Having said that I have used it (very sparingly) myself. I'll probably use it again now I've got a carpet/furnature wet and dry vac thingy.

Mine get filthy with me getting grubby at work. Its when I get rained on and jump in soaking wet that the tide marks then appear :o

Just a little point here guys that you may or may not know - the dark patches that appear on upholstery are caused by the seats absorbing dye out of your clothing when they are damp (your clothing, not the seats). Why dont you get it valeted then buy a roll of the plastic seat covers that garages use OR buy a seat cover like Snap On sell BUT put one or two of those plastic seat covers underneath and it will stop the moisture and the dye reaching the fabric. Dont just rely on the Snap On style seat cover as I believe they are breathable - no good at stopping moisture traveling either way.

Shout>> by far the best, end off :)

been using weekly for 2 years and seats are still in one peice and clean ive used a full bottle on 1 seat sometimes and left it to soak in ,mint on the carpets/door cards as well.

or get a bath minger lol

secret fatboy?
