Without putting the key in the ignition, switch on the Columbus, and press SETUP for 15 seconds or so and your get to -

[i have discovered that it the car hasn't been left locked for long enough this will take you directly to the additional Radio Setup screen (also accessable from here) - switch off, lock the car and try again much later!]

Once in here, here's a taster of what's available -

Well found - useful to see which version of software you are running, though looking at other threads I'm a little bit loathe to try updating just in case I sh*g the whole unit - it's running just fine at the moment.

You can get access to that menu straight away, to get there simply reboot the columbus using the following 3 buttons. < > i . pressing these 3 at the sametime will reboot the columbus.

How the hell did you find that out?

Experienced my first crash today - just Columbus, not the whole car ;-)I then checked Google to find out how to reboot it. I've now had 3 different answers: 1) Info + Eject + Setup (this worked for me)2) < + > keys 3) < + > + Info keysCan anyone tell me whether all 3 reboots have the same effect ? Is one of these more damaging than others (Factory reset or something) ? The first didn't seem to lose anything on my system. For info the crash occurred while my passenger was twiddling volume at the same time as I was twiddling vol on the steering wheel. Effect - Radio stuck on, couldn't change anything - chennel, volume, start HDD play, or turn it off. Nav was still working fine ! The screen presses were being recognised, but nothing on the radio changed. It continued to play on even when I switched off, screen blank, car locked etc. Very spooky. Anyhow, hopefully this is helpful - let me know the answers to that boot problem please !

A normal reboot is: < > i ...the "Setup + Eject + i" is to force firmware downgrade. Dunno about the other one! :D

Ahah - that probably explains why I got a "insert software CD" banner on top and bottom of screen. Next time I'll do the i trick. I presume that since this was an as-factory car (no tweak) the downgrade won't have downgraded me anywhere - hopefully - it all seems to be there still !

Umm, I tried this on my Columbus today and I can't get past the radio setup / diags screen... I'd like to be able to get to the full info pages so I can work out what version of the f/w i'm running at the moment and any other relevant info... do you need to do some tweaks with something else before you can see this menu? I've got 58 plate Superb II if that's any guide to the likely revision of head unit..

thanks.Ad

You'll need a member with VCDS to enable this for you.

See link in sig to find someone near you.

Does DAB in the hidden menu indicate that a DAB module should be available?

I wouldn't upgrade badly. I would do it properly and carefully.

Why can't you take it out? To enable the hidden menu you need VCDS.

Thanks for replying, yeah you're right! any idea, do I buy a disk from a well known auction site? any advise would be fantastic!

No need to buy the firmware. Just google fw5238 and download it from my-gti. 5238 will work on any previous firmware version/navigation unit.

Get a Verbatim DVD+R, download imgburn and burn the image at the lowest speed.

Start the navigation, insert the dvd in, wait for it to restart and press ok twice.

Be careful to install the firmware without the key in the ignition.

Bumped mine up to 5238 and updated maps last night - worked a treat. I had 402x something before. Was getting mighty fed up of approaching roundabouts that actually weren't there or taking turns the map didn't know about....
