Just been out to see my dad and his rear speakers are making an awful buzzing noise even when the audio is switched off, the front speakers dont make a sound , very strange. we've tried turning it on and off but no luck. Just wondered if anyone else has or had this prob?.

 Just had the exact same problem. Not cured yet. Have spoken to someone at the dealers, and they have no idea of the cause, and need to book the car in. Unfortuately they cannot book it in until next week. apart from the irritation of the noise, I'm concerned that the battery may drain. Anyone else had this problem? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I am sure you have probably tried. Does using your fader/balance controls make any difference?

Strangest thing. Just as above buzzing now stopped. keeping fingers crossed it doesn't come back.

Thanks for the reply. No difference at all from use of fader. The buzzing noise was continuous, even with the ignition off and the radio off.

Has anyone near there got a CB transmitter? If everything was off then it is simply picking up an electrical/magnetic field. This is the only thing that would be able to have an effect on the speakers due to there construction. There is a place near where I live and when you pass by in the car a buzzing/droning sound is picked up but only in that area and not all the time.

Have either or both of these cars got the upgraded sound system?

Good thought, back feed from the amp?

Well, are you sure that buzzing is coming from the speakers? I've came across the same problem and when they dismount the back door interior, they've found that the integrated side curtains screws were loose and it was the source of the buzzing.

Good thought, back feed from the amp?

I was more thinking it's either the amp or the head unit playing up, and it might help to narrow it down a bit.

My eldest son reminded me that when he fitted his amp (under his drivers seat, Renault Laguna 8 years ago) that at first he had a buzzing as well (as it had a constant supply). He took it back to the agents that fitted it and they cured it but I am afraid we don't know how.

I just had same problem. Started on opening car after work, so no additions of new kit etc to influence. Still going even though car has been switched on and off several times. Am thinking head unit fault as the radio and media sound quality are very poor since buzzing started. Is it likely to drain my battery overnight?

Really sensitive high quality speakers can pick up magnetic & electrical interference even when switched off. My B&W speakers on my HiFi in the living room will occasionally pick up static electricity from my body when I walk past them. It could be something else in the car unconnected to the radio causing it that remains active for a few minutes after the ignition is switched off.

This has happened to me. You didn't mention what head unit you had but my car is fitted with a columbus.

I am fairly sure that i rebooted the unit by pressing the buttons < + > + i together. Search on here about rebooting the head unit applicable to your car.

It has happened a couple of times but it resets each time without a problem.

Pesmog - makes sense and would explain why still sounds when car is stopped.

pdrisc - yes it's a Columbus (2009). Thanks for tip on reboot key combo - no more journeys having to listen to what reminded me of loading my computer games from a tape cassette recorder in the 80's!

Prob had cleared about an hour after it began. Here's hoping...

Cheers for the advice.

Hi,

I had the same problem with my Octavia the day after I bought it.

It's just been back to the dealer to fix another fault and I asked them to check the speakers out. They have updated the software on the Columbus head unit which they say has a fix in it for the buzzing speakers.
