Are you driving the car you really want?

Featured Replies

after seeing Pauls octy vRS there wasnt any other car i wanted at the time, there still isnt, for the size of car and the spec it has there isnt anything to touch it IMO.

with a lotto win i'd have the octy tuned to my liking and an evo 6 makkinen edt in the garage, prolly a merc ml amg or something for the other half and the kids...

So what kind of fettling can you do to a SDi, I though that remapping only worked with a turbo engine?

I get the feeling its not normally aspirated, normally. ;)

None of them are near me. I filled up at Esso cherryvalley last Saturday cause I was past that area, but the stations on my usual routes are at 83.9 with deisel a bout a penny dearer. What really ****es me is that Tesco Knocknagoney is cheap, yet tesco Abbey Centre (where I shop) is 83.9  .

Putting in a BT36 postcode (the one for the Abbey Centre Tesco) still found several places at 79.9 or less.

Where and where is this web site that gives you this information?

Found the web site, but it is not accurate, typed in my post code and it lists Ballyclare Milestone as 82.9, but it is 83.9p. Was in the shop there this morning. Also nothing cheap in my area at all. (My post code is BT39)

I suppose as I'm getting on a bit and having had a few bank account stretching 25-35K motors, the satisfaction of watching BMW drivers praying they don't kerb their tyres or alloys, white-knuckled as to where the next payment's coming from, wondering why the 325 they remortgaged for, can't catch the Skoda in front of them!

All this talk of 20 - 30 mpg scares me, I get 35+ plus towing me caravan, and 60+ solo..AND its a very comfortable Skoda

The only car I have seen the fuel gauge fall faster in than the Octy vRS was my first car an Escort Mk3 1.3L which had a faulty automatic choke :)

As much as I like the Cordoba I can't say that it is the car I 'want' to drive. The car I want would be a nearly new Landrover 110 crew cab or 90 county, however due to the fact that SWMBO would be unable to drive either of these vehicles I am a bit stuck.

Don't fancy the Tomb Raider then? ;) Then SWMBO could pretend she was Lara Croft :D

I think William misread what Lee said...Lee was pondering stripping his RS out like Paul but said into wouldn't be a good day to day car........

But in case he didn't misread.....I quote what my honoureable friend just said..

...bolleaux!

Thank you Adrain for rescuing me, I was beginning to think I had inadvertantly slated the Octy vRS for not being at all drivable. Like everyone else other than it would seem William, my car is perfectly driveable for daily use (if a little bumpy on H&R coil overs). Paul's, as I would like, is perhaps not so practical with no rear seats, four point harnesses, roll cage, little in the way of creature comforts etc.... I wonder if he as removed the air-con 'cos surely this is surplus to requirements too?

That is the one I want :D

I bought my first Octavia in March 2000 (an SDi Classic) purely on price and the then 3 yr warranty/servicing?maintenace deal as an experiment.

I'm now about to pick up my Fourth Skoda in as many years and I can honestly say that having the Octy RS for 18 months and seriously using it as a proper Taxi it never gave a wrong kick, never needed a coil pack and was totally practical as an everyday usable car suitable for business and pleasure.. I would defy anyone to put forward an alternative car that could fit all the criteria of the RS for my needs including price, spec. and smiles per mile... it was the only car ever that I have test driven and stepped out thinking I've got to have one. :D and I would have another in a minute and probably will at some point in the future.

 BAAHEED

I'm certainly driving the car I really wanted but I didn't completely realise this until I'd got it. Does that make sense? Some on here will know what I mean I'm sure.

I test drove the 150bhp Golf and was very impressed but I couldn't justify the cost after looking at the Octavia. Now after 18 months of ownership I can safely say that VWs are not on my radar at all. If I'd got the money I could be tempted by an Audi A4 but buying a VW would be, IMHO, a complete waste of money. If Skoda continue to bring out what are effectively cheap VWs then I can see myself being a happy Skoda owner for the foreseeable future.

Good thread William.

Well I don't drive the car I would really like as I have a 2001 Honda Accord 2.0 VTEC.

But I have a Octy Elegance 2.0 TDI 140 on order :D just waiting for a delivery date.

Yes, totally.

I bought a sensible car only to fall in love with it once I got my hands on it.

But I'm with Jon on the cars I'd really want: M3 CSL or GT3-RS... With the CSL being slightly preferable because of its, erm, practicality. :D:rofl:

I'd like one of these please

As for me, before I bought the fabia, I was after something smallish, and relatively sporty.

My old man had an S plate 110 tdi octy when it first came out and loved it.

At the time I was looking for a car, I was pretty much decided on the ibiza 130 sport. I would have bought the fabia but the closest I could get to what I wanted was the 100bhp pd in elegance trim (I like the toys). But the fabia was a little underpowered, and the beezer was a little too bland. The cupra was only in 1.8T variant which was too expensive for my liking, and I really liked the torque of VAG diesels.

If only Skoda did a sporty fabia I was thinking....

About 2 weeks before I ordered a beezer 130 sport, Skoda announced the fabia vrs. The photos I saw and the spec (with the 130 pd engine) was enough for me to order one. I test drove one, but had pretty much made up my mind beforehand :D

So to answer Will's question, if money were no object, I'd have the fabia I currently own. I'd also have a second one as a project car and do something mental to it like putting in the 2.5l V6 tdi block ;) and sort out suspension and braking whilst I'm at it for the ultimate "Q" car that's a hot hatch, yet does not have "boy racer" written all over it.

I'd like one of these please

OK so I can see that it's a Jetta - what makes it special? Apart from the lowered look and some nice wheels?

I too am driving the car that I wanted. I could have got an Octy vRS and did consider it, but the diesel is the best engine for my comute to and from work. If money was no object, I would buy a McLaren F1 GTR. :D

I think its just a funny thing I've got going on Nick ... it's been my wallpaper at work for the last two months and I really really like it ... it makes me tingle :)

Was it you who had the Jetta GTi 16v? Somebody on here did  Top 'Q' car. I think the Bora has got a bit of this about it though.

Nope it wasn't unfortunately Rich and if it was Getta style with a GTi front end instead of the square lights then I would doubly jealous :(
