good or bad? dump valves octavia 02 vrs

Featured Replies

Steevie, who supplies the APR recirculating one?

On my old vrs i was goin to stick a forge dump valve on but after i stuck a K&N 57i on i didnt bother, it doesnt make the car louder or roar or anything but it makes the dump valve louder. You will never get a DV on the vrs to be loud as it has to be a resurculating one, blows off 30% and 70% goes back into the engine or something like that. Got a sierra cosworth with a group A rally DV on the cold side of the engine and the noise that comes from it can wake the dead.

i had the forge 007P and ABD CAI like others here on my last octy, and i can honestly say, from the moment the CAI was fitted at JBS, hearing the change in engine note was ace, when it wa being backed out of jbs's garage, in fact i remember saying to lass at counter... is that my car backing out, before even going out to it lol

It seems to be especially loud when in a built up area on either side of you... kind of like reverb off the buildings

I'm pleasantly surpirsed just how much of a difference a drop in K&N panel filter has made to mine. Dump valve is louder, car has a great tone to it now from 2.5k and higher up the revs is sounds less wheezy.

Yes but you don't get the lovely sucky sounds

If/when I start modding properly a CAI is way up on the list :D

I bought the forge recirculating dv off my mate when he flogged his vrs.Gave it back to him yesterday, waste of money in my opinion, couldnt hear bugger all so went back to standard:thumbup:

This is the set up I have. The ABD CAI really makes the Forge DV sound better and not ott. I am sure that a cheaper ebay CAI will still do the same with a forge DV or even standard DV, although as mine is remapped the forge offers better reliability. ABD use a K&N filter which is top quality compared to the cheaper EBay one. I was thinking of changing to a Apexi one, so may have a K&N going soon. More recently I went back to standard airbox, definned it completly added a cold air feed from the box to the passenger front grill and stuck in a green panel filter. Torque is better I have to say with this set up, and as I definned it and added a few holes(away from the engine side) the DV still sounds not to bad. But as Ian states the sound of the CAI is so irresistable so hey ho back on again, but with a recleaned K&N which runs better than before. So I now may have a brand new green panel filter going and a K&N cone.

I could hear my standard DV when I fitted the ABD CAI but it did not sound as crisp as when I fitted the Bailey.

It does not sound OTT and it is easy to drive without wooshing all the time (but whats the point of that eh?)

And again, being remapped I wanted the better reliability from an uprated DV.

Hi

Just (about an hour ago) fitted a Forge DV R and it sounds ok, MPG comp played up for a while but seems to have settled down now...no loss in power , dont think ill be having the radio on for a while lol.

Did you fit a DV in the end?

i would lone to have a go at doing this to my octy but i am completley baffled by what u lot are on about and dont really think i have the balls to start playin about with it.

Basically a CAI(cold Air Induction Kit) replaces the Standard Air filter and box that is attached to the MAF. The ABD I have run down the side of teh battery and down towards the front bumper so it can get cold air into it.

The DV (Dump Valve) is fitted to the TIP(Turbo Inlet Pipe). Standard one is black plastic and not to clever for a remapped car. So people replace it for a better one.

That engine bay is lovely

Thanks guys, worked hard to get it to this.

wow...thats a nice engine bay....think ill have to get polishing on mine on this lovely sunday afternoon

If you remove the air pump (choke), you can recirculate to air filter adapter were the air pump feed pipe was having removed it. I still believe that there is to much negative air movement (ie,the wrong way) for the turbo spoiling back up, as pressure is forced back into the intake pipe (the turbo is unlikely to pick up that pressure.:)

and i thought i liked to keep my engine bay clean:mad:

Who Supplies the ABD CAI??? is it the same as a K&N Typoon filter...

I'm looking at the Forge DV with Possibly a BMC CDA....

:)
