Fabia vrs limited edition

Featured Replies

Hi Folks

I ve been a member of the site for a while but i have had a mk1 octy vrs and currently drive an octy 2 vrs.

I have got the chance to buy an 07 Fabia vrs ltd edition.

Just wondered if you good folks could give pros/cons on the fabia vrs,

Both my octys have been petrol,

Thanks for taking the time to look any suggestions would be appreciated

Regards Whoosh:thumbup:

I personally wouldn't swap a Octy vRS mkII for a fabia vRS mkI, unless I really wanted a smaller car more economical car...

Having said, fancy a swap? ;)

Well I went from a 2005 plate VW Polo 1.4MPI to the VRS Limited Edition last November. It's an 07 plate in Race Blue, goes like stink, and returns 60 MPG :D I love it, I'm retired, but have done 4000 miles in 4 months in the little monster.

Never liked diesels till I drove this car.

Cons: Needs decent tyres or it can be a handful in the wet

Console bushes need replacing at about 30,000 miles, but if you fit cupra bushes they will last twice as long.

Rear brakes can be noisy until they are well warmed up.

Paint stone chips easily.

Interior you either love it or hate it. Black headlining means it's dark inside the car. Personally I love it. Leather seats are comfy but can squeek.

ASR doesn't seem to do much, ABS can be brutal, and nose dips a lot under heavy braking.

It's definitely a step backwards in terms of power, comfort and refinement!

having owned both i think i'm in a good position to say the fabia is a way more exiting car to drive and own,the octy 2 vrs is the dullest car on the planet,i spent20k on one back in 05 and 3 months later sold it back to the dealer they are a terrible car

I went from an Octy I vRS estate (petrol) to an Octy II Elegance hatch (2.0 TDI) to a Fabia vRS, so I've been getting smaller and smaller.

The change from the petrol Octy to the diesel Octy was forced on me when I got made redundant and lost my company car. I had to buy my own and doing 25k miles a year meant a move to the dark side.

I did miss having a vRS though, and so after 18 months in the diesel Octy I took the plunge and got my current Fabia. It was a very difficult decision - I'd had Mondeo-sized repmobiles for years and was quite worried I wouldn't cope with the size of it.

So - did i make the right decison. Yes. I love it. It puts a big grin on my face. It makes me take the long way home from work. It makes me feel like a kid again. But it also munches the motorway miles when needed (added cruise control helps). And its reasonably spacious (a roof box helps).

At the end of the day it comes down to your own needs.

Do you need the space of a bigger car?

Do you want the economy of diesel?

Do you want a newer car for the same money?

Finally, I would suggest also looking at late standard Fabia vRS (56 plate, maybe 07 plate) which when I purchased certainly seemed to offer better value for money than the SE. If you can save around 2k on a car that is only a few months older, you could use it towards adding leather, cruise, remap, Jabba ARB, 312mm brakes, suspension mods etc

Having been offered the SE I would go for it! Looks fantastic, stands out and as everyone knows, is absolutely rapid.

When I was getting mine I looked at a few vRS's and none really got me, but then I saw the SE, drove 400 miles to get it and absolutely love it :D

Well... coming from a superior Octavia, it won't feel rapid!

One of the mods hes listed on his Octy VRS is a Jumbo Box, wich i assumer is a tuning box? so going from a basically Remapped octy to a standard SE, no it wont feel quciker, probably will feel similar but all he needs to do then is Remap the Fabia and it will feel much quicker than the octy and in-gear acceleration i.e 30-70 in 3rd it will be quicker too. plus the look the muts nuts!!!

On the contrary my young fellow, because of the oodles of torque on offer (Easily over 250lbs/ft on a SE) it should feel more rapid :D

Oh and I agree with Gary (Oilburninnut) I test drove the Mk2 Octy vRS last year for a replacement for my Furby vRS and it just didn't feel....fast :(

Nope, a jumbo box is a central arm rest which you can keep a can of juice and half a bag of crisps in, IIRC you also get an MP3 jack in it too.

It may feel more rapid, but it won't be, such is the veil of lies that diesel brings with it!

I've driven many a MkII Octy vRS, and owned a Fabia vRS and MkI Octy vRS. The Octavia's were quicker, but the Fabia had the "shove"... but you soon realised that it was just a torque spike, and the Octy was the quicker car! My current A4 could probably give a Fabia vRS a run for it's money! :)

0-60 6.7 seconds on timing gear, how exactly is that not rapid?:P the mk 1 octy is an awesome car,the mk 2 is as dull as dishwater,oh and a small matter of murdering a well known 280bhp one round the ring kind of lets me know i made te right descision, get the se you won't be dissapointed:thumbup:

Yours isn't exactly standard though, Gary!

I'm comparing my experience of standard cars :)

It's just not, Gary, it's just not.....

We've just sold our SE, and I think the wife is slightly regretting it already, as she complains that her new car is slow, although she drove the skip today, and complained it was too fast......

I'd have another SE in a moment, although I must admit I am getting a bit bored with fabia Vrs's, as I am on No. 4...........

u lot seem 2 b goin thou ur vrs like no 2moro! Chuck a fabia vrs my way would ya : ) il chuck u 5G once my insurance pay up. I miss my fabia

find another 4.5k and you could be in posetion of my sensibly modded se:D

I agree; it's by no means slow, but it's not a quick as it feels or people make out. I was toying with the idea of an SE (standard interior is way too likely to get grubby) but I would've been looking at spending money on it right off the bat (suspension, brakes FMIC etc) :o

Sell the Ibiza and buy Gary's then!

Well sorted, and over 2.5k of mods for free ( more or less...)

I am not trying to sell it for him btw, it's just that if it doesn't sell soon, I might do something stupid ( even for me, and believe me I am incredibly stupid.....)

to be fair, when I was looking £9-9.5k was what the SE where up for on the Trader so you pretty much would be getting the diff, clutch, brakes suspension etc for free  but I think I'll stick with the Ibiza - it's way more yellower :D

Do your opinions of the octy II also apply to the new vrs cr170 then? I think this is an awesome motor! Have any of you seen the modded white vrs on the octy II forums with black zeniths (can't remember the name of the owner). Looks really smart imo!

As much as I like my fabia vrs, the crashy ride, loud road noise and interior rattles can make the daily commute a tiresome drive on some days. Granted my car is standard, is pushing nearly 90,000 miles and hasn't had half the money spent on it that some of you here have (I say in admiration:)).

But If I had the cash I really would be tempted to take the plunge and go for a new octy II vrs cr170 flappy paddle dsg.

Tell me I'm wrong guys!!:)

Console bushes need replacing at about 30,000 miles,

how much is that likely to cost.?

(am at 27k miles and starting to hear nooises if I go a bit too fast over the larger types of speed bump.)

All limited edition one's are race blue.

Lummox @ Unit 18 quoted me £200 (inclusing parts) to replace my cracked console bushes with Cupra items and uprate the wishbone bushes with Powerflex ones
