  • I've got just the thing you need for your engine, looks like your inlet manifold is a 50mm jobbie. In which case, how about this to bling up the engine? Smoothed and chrome plated, very nice, wa

At the moment i dont have enough room in the unit as full of Cat D cars waiting for me to repair them, so going to put most of the interior back in and complete the engine bay. I can take it to the unit and seal it up then work on the prep. Will get all the bolt on parts in primer first so car will be in and out in the shortest time.

True, I suppose the inside of the doors and boot are easy as you can take them off to spray.

Spent over 4 hours getting all the dog hairs out of the rear wheel arch carpets but looks ok now.

P1000859.jpg

Removed the petrol flap lock mech as not using the air central locking system.

P1000857.jpg

Modified to take an electric motor and re fitted.

P1000858.jpg

All the clips for the rear loom in place just need to remove the crappy high level brake light wiring and clip it all in place.

Just catching up on a few updates - it's certainly looking good

Those wheels just look epic!

That is lovely mate. I'm toying with the idea of doing that to my 1991 Jetta GTI 16V as its a rare motor but don't know if I have the technical know how or the balls, just worried about taking it apart and just ending up with a garage full of parts that I don't know how to put back together..

I take it you have a sound mechanical engineering background of some kind behind you..

No mechanical engineering background just like to learn. Only did the 20v conversion on the silver mk2 as it was a challenge. Done enough mk2's i dont need to ladel anything and know what a cables does by the colour code now.

Restored a mates Jetta 16v last year. Came out well and as you say rare now.

Started on one of my wheels today as the powder coat does not get into the area around the edge of the centre peice so had a play. Was a total **** to do but looks ok.

P1000886.jpg

Fitted all my painted brake pipes. Just need to make up my last one and paint.

P1000888.jpg

Think they look better in white.

Engine bay is almost complete now.

P1000887.jpg

Stripped the front cross member and painted the lower part and mounts.

P1000889.jpg

P1000890.jpg

Not looking forward to doing the rest of the wheels but got to now i have done one lol.

Why didn't the powder get in there?

P1000886.jpg

Love it............:D

  • Author
Why didn't the powder get in there?

When powder coating the powder is atomised and then applied with an electrostatic charge which draws it to the item being coated so hard to get into the tight places as with paint you are propelling it onto the item.

Loving the wheel. How did you do it?

Loving all the white bits too, does make them look much cleaner. Had it been a blue or metallic car I think it would look overkill, but looks just sooo perfect with it all in white :)
