The slowest fabia vRS ever?

Featured Replies

I love it and would buy it if I sold mine

Nah, the slowest vrs ever was mine when the turbo pipe popped off by the intercooler :D

Quite like this actually. :D

Needs a back bumper and green cars are meant to be unlucky aren't they?

not too keen on the green? but defo needs the rear bumper, its the best bit :D

They are - I had a green SDI and wrote it off :D

I think it looks good in that colour.

Must be slow though.

Ever had to drive your car in limp mode? That's basically what it is like driving an SDI - although the SDI "could" be a smidge faster.

Looks fairly clean to be fair.

I've never driven an SDI, how slow are they really?

I'm sure my vrs isn't as quick as it used to be. Probably lost a few horses over the last 4 years...

64bhp with a lardy 1.9 diesel engine. Not quick. :) But economical, cheap to insure and gets you from A to B. :)

Jason the SDI isn't slow to the extent that it's undrivable. My previous one dealt with anything you could throw at it - including steep hills - you just had to plan ahead and be in 4th well before the start of the hill.

I much preferred the way it delivered power (low end torque) over the 1.4TDI which i found had little to no torque.

I actually quite miss some of the SDI's attributes. It ran quieter than the vrs, it did loads more to the gallon and it was also a lot smoother. I think it was a fantastic engine for what it was supposed to be and it's a bit of a shame that they discontinued it.

By the way, 18.6 seconds (the claimed 0-60 time for the SDI) is way off if you get it warm and drive it correctly - it'll easily do 15 or 16 seconds ;)

Mine doesn't feel as quick but I did a timed 0-60 run in two directions (not a proper one, just using a mate's stopwatch) a couple of days ago and it does it in smack on 9 seconds - same or better than what they claimed it did as it came out of the factory... I figure I've just got used to the power.

A SDi engine isn't a vRS engine without the turbo.

They do what they say on the tin.

Agreed - the SDI was much much faster than the vrs engine with no turbo, trust me.

Was the SDI dropped because of emission rules, Ross?

I agree, got a Seat Cordoba with that engine in it, mine has 125K on the clock now, and feels slow, but once warm and keep the revs up she'll go ok. sits quite happy at 100 (on autobahns) all day long while sipping the juice.

My VRS was in limp mode a couple of months ago, and it would struggle to hit 60 - im sure the SDI is not that slow.

Now what is slow is the Fabia 2 1.4 16v petrol....good god! I used it as a courtesy car last week, and it basically does not move. I remember my brother's old Peugeot 205 1.4 (8 valve, carb), same displacement but that used to scream along!

Is this what we call progression?

Sorry, rant over!

I'm sure the comparison of an SDi to a limp-moded vrs is light hearted banter. :)

From the feedback here they don't sound too bad a motor then...a veritable option if any of us need a good workhorse for work or if any of us ever get credit crunched. Although to be fair the vrs is relatively cheap motoring.

A few years back i drove a friend's old L-reg Audi 80 1.9 diesel. I don't think it was a tdi cause it was slow as hell off the mark but once going it didn't drive too bad. My only concern with it was that you couldn't make a quick getaway i.e. during rush-hour traffic when it's nigh impossible to get out of a junction etc. I'm sure with the fabia being lighter it would respond better than this...

Again, 16v petrols and N/A diesels have to be driven differently!

They need more revs :)

I used to drive my Dad's old Toyota Carina 2.0 D, no turbo, had to give it some revs but it pulled ok then. And my old Lupo 1.4 Sport did nothing below 4,000rpm, but again give it some and it flew!

I've never heard this... but my last car was green,... it broke down ALLOT!

Could vandalism of paintwork really result in a Cat D write off, as the Seller suggests?

Sounds a bit sus doesn't it?..

That rear bumper is a different shade of green too, and maybe the rear hatch as well? Guess it could have been these panels that were vandalised? like you say though, can't see that writing it off.

He says Cat C not D, which is worse than D  :

Category A: Total burnout. No value left in the vehicle

Category B: Break only. Value lies in salvage

Category C: Damage to car is more than total value of car

Category D: Repair would cost almost as much as the vehicle is worth. Better to write off than repair. No comebacks for the insurers

I had the SDI for about 6 weeks and hated it, traded for the 1.4 8v, same HP basically but felt much perkier. About 2 weeks later i started doing 600 miles a week though so wished i had kept the SDI for economy if nothing else.

I love my SDi, different strokes and all that! prefer the look of the VRs obviously but for me the SDi is ideal, cheap to run insure and maintain. perfect!

i think with a rear Vrs bumper that would look spot on!

We had 69hp out of our SDI after a remap, smokes a bit when giving it a good thrash, but that's what our courtesy cars are for :)

Quite like the colour!
