new milotec carbon b pillar covers

Featured Replies

a new range just announced which are 3d carbon rather than fake carbon- anyone got any yet??

i'd be interested to see these, and to know the price..

Tony

Listed as €81 from milotec but no pix of them as of yet

For the estate, normal carbon imitate 85 euros

3D carbon 131 euros

For the limo, normal carbon imitate 69 euros

3D carbon 81 euros

There are pictures for the estate, cant see too much difference on their piccies though. Should see it in real first IMHO. Especially the price difference for the estate is a bit

could the originals be covered in carbon, as i do with the facia sets??

Tony

Could I just have some black one please? I don't really want fake carbon fibre on my car :)

I think the whole point is that these are real carbon, not fake

RSD ( UK Importer) have advised the price is £85 plus vat plus £12 carriage- so £111 all in

So they should be bloody carbon.....

Fair enough - they should be nice then :)

I'd still just prefer some black ones though :D

Same here! I've been thinking about the Milotecs in the absence of anything else, but why oh why can't Skoda UK just market some simple stick-on black (matt, semi-matt, piano black, no big preference) B-pillar decals like they used to for the MkI Octy - see pics here. Mk I (Nov 1998) Octavia SLX 110bhp TDi - Silver Much less expensive, plus the whole idea in my view is to lose those chunky B-pillars in profile, not draw attention to them as the carbon-fibre (mock or otherwise) might do.

Having said that, maybe the purchase of the genuine Bedouin C-F trims will pay for itself when traded off against savings in insurance premiums? Just think of the amazing structural strength added to your vehicle with bolt-on carbon-fibre pillar trims ... surely massive savings to be made by our selfless insurance fraternity in terms of added roll-over crush protection etc - perhaps we should suggest they do the same thing for those Audi TT hoops?

how do these real carbon ones actually fit on?

are they direct replacements or do they bond onto the originals?

Direct replacements? So it's a call-out for the fire brigade, chain saws and angle-grinders then? I suspect the structural rigidity might be a tad compromised?

Assuming they fix the same as the imitation ones, they're just stick on with double sided sponge Sellotape!

Think the reason skoda dont do them is, unlike most other cars, there's not a clearly defined b pillar to bond replacements on- there's a line at the top of the pillar but at the bottom it just flows into the door, whereas on most cars the door trim at the bottom of the window carries across and delineates the b pillar as a seperate area

The Mk 1 octys had a clearly defined cut off as it were, top and bottom, but the Mk2s clearly dont.

Yeah, me too, me too.

No carbon, wood, metal and everything-else imitatitions, just plain black.

Does anybody know about another supplier of such items except Milotec?

Fair point that actually

Makes sense...

I sold my fake carbon ones to bahnstormer, but then got some matt vinyl and did the pillars myself with some very careful trimming, a nice job on a sunny afternoon if you have the patience Steve. I will have a look for some pictures.

PS I made up a soap solution in a spray bottle and got the pillars wet and slippery, moved the vinyl into position, squeegeed out the soap / water and trimmed it with a hobby knife. If you try to do it without the soapy solution then you end up with bubbles etc, the water and soap don't stop the adhesive from curing once it's all squeezed out.

The 3M DiNoc foil is a good foil that is resistant and should do the trick.

TBH the 'fake' ones don't look that bad IMO. You only notice the faux-carbon grain when you're up close. I painted out the Milotec badge to make them as close to OEM as poss. See pics here:

A hundred big ones is a huge price to pay...

I sold my fake carbon ones to bahnstormer ......

I had to strip off the original double sided sticky and replace it.

New stuff wasn't that good, plus I got one cover slightly misaligned. On the Motorway, airflow got under the corner of one of the covers; next thing I knew I only had three covers!

Wife never liked them so I removed the three and went back to OE spec. Might try the black vinyl instead, one day. ;)

PS> Avatar pic was taken with covers still in place.

Eureka! I've been trying to remember the name of that product for weeks now, and it just wouldn't come back - so: magic, magic! I had remembered that our designers used to use it when I worked for Ford to cover the full-size clay models that we in marketing research then used for the customer 'beauty clinics' - probably all done with 3D full-size holograms now. Anyway, once covered in Di-Noc (usually silver), the clays looked just as if they were spray-painted metal.

I had been thinking that perhaps Dinocking the outer black elements of the lower black front grille to match my Octy's bodycolour (just leaving the inner bits in original black) would look neat, and certainly cheaper than getting them sprayed. However I might well now check out Di-Noc in black to deal with my dislike of those over-heavy B-pillars. Found a pic of the right stuff on the 3M website (it's product code PS-504 - I think!!). Trouble is, neither of the two mainland suppliers shown in the link on the 3M website have Di-Noc results when I search them. Anyone know where to get it? And do I have to minimum purchase a linear mile? If so, watch this space for a suggested group buy!! :D

Looks like interesting stuff

Came across this ScoobyNet thread, but it's discussing the carbon finish version of the product...

I have the first fake carbon milotec ones on my car (almost since new), but want to replace them with the DiNoc foil. Already have theDiNoc foil lying around,

Experimented with it already, see this gallery and the foto below:

Those Interior bits look awesome!

The rest of the Silver trim need doing too though ;)

Ah right, I've just put two and two together on this 3M product. I've seen interior bits done like that before and was going to get some for the Fabia's interior actually. Didn't realise it was the same type of product that could be used for the pillars.

Looks nice and tidy, but a bit shiny for me - or is that just the photos and perhaps the flash bouncing off?

Like the use of the Audi gearknob too - which model is it from and was it a direct swap?

Steve

Sorry not my cup of tea - the only bit I like is the OFF button
