de-cat

Featured Replies

hey all was thinking about gettin ma wee furby de-catted is there any problems with getting this done and does it make it any better etc...??cheers:thumbup:

loads of stuff covered on this if you have a quick search, anyway in short some people think it causes your turbo to go bang although many people have de-catted with no problem (it's next on my list) and secondly you get a bit noise.

John

De-cat is the way to go, more bhp, more torque, more noise, less weight, looks good. Mine will have a de-cat when the bits arrive.

Sell the Cat, there full of gold / silver / platenham etc. (plus soot). Get £50 atleast at a good scrappy/pikey.

Dave

If you want noise (and dont want to run the risk of turbo pop-age) get the back box removed

Got mine redone last week at Elite Customs in Ayr (top job by Johnny)

If you want to hear mine mate, head up anytime :)

if it gains you power or allows the turbo to spool a little quicker then cool, but why would you want to make a clattery diesel even noisier - surely that's the downside?

not when you hear the sound coming out the back...........it aint a clattery diesel noise........You'd be VERY suprised, mine has a very dep growly rumble and sounds nothing like a diesel (it has been commented on :P lol):rofl:

its difficult to explain the noise from a de-catted diesel. I've just had mine done and on idle it certainly sounds more like a petrol from the back and when you drive briskly it sounds better than just a rattly engine

a nice turbo whistle on idle then all hell breaks loose under heavy boost ;)

the only cars with de-cats I've really heard up close are my Focus and my mate's Impreza and both were pretty much louder, more aggressive versions of the exhaust note with the cat, which is why I wasn't keen on de-catting the diesel

I'm sold... Where do I sign? :D

had mine runnign with the de-cat for a while now and it seems to run a lot better. I first noticed the better throtal responce. Then the noise is a lot nicer with the miltek.

Only downside is that it smeels a bit more and there is a bit more black smoke when booting it.

All the talk about the turbo blowing is a bit ..........well........ no one has proved anything yet, mine has been fine and I have been driveing mixed realy.

Quite. I've had mine on for over a year now and have had no problems related to it at all (also been running a tuning box, PD160 and K&N).

For me, the biggest downside is the smell. It really does smell awful at times in the car, but the pros far out weigh the bad smell!! :)

It's worth doing for the increase in drivability alone. This is delfinately a modification you will notice during 'everyday' driving. The car is much better to drive around town, the really low end torque increase is great for that.

I noticed a difference with just the back box removed............Still swithering about the CAT though......

dotted line ----> ................................................... :P :rofl:

Any stainless exhaust place will do it, unless you fancy a BIG old road trip north of the border :rofl::D:D

Got a good deal on it shall we say ;) pm'd you Mr.

mine seems to be quite smokey already (not had the remap yet) ive been wanting to get a decat for the performance gain and for the noise as ive been told they sound great with them. just not sure about more black smoke in the rear view mirror and a nasty smell...

Minimal gains from a de-cat IIRC

Its all about the noise baby :rofl:

A Ibiza, but as im sure you are aware same thing, different badge!

This was running a stage one map at the time, and a de-cat exhaust.

Oh, and I warn anyone, it does smell like a bus on start up with a de-cat. Fact.

My exhaust sounds more "growly" and "wooshy" and i've still got the cat.............

I'll try to get a vid of the new exhaust

What system have you got Dovit?

custom built, no back box with a slightly enlarged pipe
