Keeping Mobile No with P.A.Y.G.

Featured Replies

I have had my phone for a number of years, and it was second hand when got it (my Brothers), also the number pad is wearing out. So what I am wanting to do is buy a new phone and keep either the Sim or just keep the phone no as it's a quite easy number to remember.

ATM it is a brick compared to today's phones, a Nokia 3510i, I am on O2 Pay as Yo Go and want to stay with them. So how do I keep the number when changing phones? Also can anyone recommend a good Nokia phone?

Yes, just transfer the old SIM into the new phone. Just check that the new phone is either unlocked, or is on the same network as your SIM so that it works.

You may have to get the WAP/MMS settings but if thats the case, post back and I or someone else will help you.

Dont forget to transfer any numbers on the phones memory to your SIM before you ditch the old phone.

I am assuming that you arnt bothered about all the bells and whistles on a phone? Just go to an O2 shop and play with a few, Nokia still make a few basicish phones.

Another idea would be to go to a phone shop (markets etc) that sell second hand phones, you wont go far wrong with a 6310i, they are a few years old now but are really really bomb proof, battery lasts for weeks and are very easy to use. In their time they were the dogs doo dahs.

I think some older phones had a different sized SIM, so watch out for that.

I was thinking of a Silver Nokia 6300(i) but have read reviews saying the battery life is very poor, my current one lasts about 7 days between charging. Is there any point of buying a Sim free phone they advertise?

My Sim card is 4 years old (Sept 2005, phone is older) will this affect the new phones performance if I swop?

His Phone isnt that old ;)

if you want to take it to a new provider you will need to ask the current provider for a PACT code, if staying on the same network you can get another sim card tell them you want to put your phone number onto it, give them your number and the serial number of the new sim card and they can do it there and then and it will then take a few hours for the network to update it.

You can move PAYG to a contract on any network, but cannot change networks if staying on PAYG.

You also cant (unless this has changed very recently) make a contract number into a PAYG.
