Apparently urgently require tyres - Recommendations

Featured Replies

My Octy vRS is in for some work this morning - hopefully sorting out the Christmas Tree of lights I currently have.

Now I always thought I was careful with tyres but I'm told that I have 2 illegal and 2 borderline - recommendation is to have 4 new tyres.

Not the kind of bill I was looking for today!

I'm on 17" Zenith's, so need 225/45/Z

Dealer has quoted me £137.09 per corner - I was hoping for closer to £100 per corner.

Been on etyres.com and at £100 a corner (or there abouts) I can get:

Toyo PX4

Toyo CF1

Pirelli P6000

Goodyear Eagle F1 GSD3

FirestoneTZ200

Dunlop SP9000

Anyone want to recommend a preference in this list?

Alternatives?

Need to give dealer a call back within the next couple of hours - so appreciate your input.

Personally out of that list I would go for the Goodyear F1's

Or as a cheap alternative...Falken 452's probably around £60 per corner.

Also you might get more response in the Octy2 section :)

Camskill Tyres are highly recommended by me, great prices and service

I had a similar dilemma when choosing tyres for my new alloys.

Everyone was recommending the usuals (vredestein, goodyears etc.) but i wanted something different, so I went for Avon ZZ3's

I can't fault them, excellent grip, wearing well and tread pattern looks really nice.

They are reasonably priced too, even though money wasn't an issue when choosing.

Cheers

Damian

Have you asked them why they are illegal and borderline - just so you know they aren't pulling the wool?

Otherwise I'd recommend Vredestiens - Sporttrac 3 or the Ultrac Sessantas that get a good review on here. I got 4 Sportrtac 3's for £280 all in a few months ago but they were 205 16's.

Eagle f1s quiet and grip like mad

Thanks for the replies.

I'll cut the long story (needing to sort tyres out before mechanics willing to road test vehicle to find faults etc) short.

Ended up buying:

4x Bridgestone RE050A

More than I wanted to spend, but at short notice you have to see what people have in stock etc.

That's £460 I won't see again :(

Goodyear F1's have a VERY square profile so will wear out really quickly if you have much negative camber (insides wear more than the outsides) on the car.

They could end up being very noisy (all the bridgestones I have had have been noisy)

Any more noisy that the Dunlop SP1's that were on there before?

At least equal to Dunlops :o

Why didn't they notice how bad the tyres supposedly were 2/3 weeks ago??

Well that is what confused me.

It is a different dealership this time - so maby one is more observant than the other.

Or....they took my car, nicked all 4 wheels, put 4 wheels on it with Dunlop SP1's but warn all the way and then convinced me they were mine all along.

Stranger things have been known.

Still haven't got my car back.

They still cannot get the ABS light out and the bloody Roomster they let me have is starting to get on my nerves.

i can reccomend the toyo px4's, seem really good so far but only had them a few weeks, i managed to get 4x215/45/17's for £250 on ebay! which is a freakin bargain.

i can let you know the sellers name etc if you like, and obviously thats brand new tyres etc not part worns or anything.

and the 215/45's actually improved my speedo accuracy over the standard 205/50's.

i dought youll be dissapointed witht he bridgestones tbh, after all any new tyre will be a significant improvement over old worn tyres.

Now I know I paid more than I planned per corner for my new tyres.

I also know I've paid slightly "over the odds" for my tyres too - if I wasn't in such a hurry I could have saved a little more.

However saying that, so far I'm impressed with the Bridgestone's.

They are quieter than my old Dunlop's without a doubt and the ride just feels smoother.

Threw the car around some corners on the drive home and there is plenty of grip there.

Just have to hope they last a fair amount of time now.

Just a daft question. Why has this been posted in the "Styling and Car Care" section of this forum? Should it be moved to the "Octavia" or "Performance & Maintenance" sections on here.

I just assumed "tyres" came under car care.

Uniroyal Rainsport 2's, good grip in all weathers, a lot quieter than the Bridgestones I had on before and not as expensive as Goodyear F1's.

vredestein ultrac sessantas. Classed as ultra high performance tyre, according to lots of tyre reviews it rivalled by only a few tyres such as pilot sport 2, eagle F! assymetrics yet cost nearly 30 pound a tyre less.

£87 pound a tyre incl VAT delivered and that is for 225/40R18 tyres, so you should get R17 for less

Late perhaps, but I'd buy the Eagle GSD3's while you can.
