Insurance again! Renewal quote arrived.

Featured Replies

I returned from work yesterday to find my insurance renewal on the door step, seems to come round so fast. Direct Line quoted me £100 more than last year  £450 :thumbdwn:

My car is an 05 Mk1 vRS with 116k on the clock. I am 29 living in SE Kent and keep the car on the drive. I have 8 years no claims. I also have my wife as a named driver she is 27 with 5 years no claims.

What company's are you guys with and how much do you pay?

Cheers

Until this year I used Confused.com to get a good quote and then played the insurance companies off against each other 'till the quote came down to a price I was happy to pay. That was on a standard car, now it's remapped I went through Adrian Flux and am paying about the same as my lowest quote elsewhere for a standard car.

I'm with Churchill. At £259 they are nearly half the price of my previous insurers - The AA. Also I got it on monthly direct debit at no extra charge. Contrast The AA whose quoted £426 became £500+ when I opted for monthly payments.

Just been on confused, got it down to £350 (Elaphant). Will have another look round before I call my current insurance company (Direct Line) to see if they can get it a bit lower. :worried:

I found 'I buy eco' was the cheapest, but that was through confused, and there customer service is lousy so I can't really recommend, gocompare worth having a look, you can sometimes shave an extra 5-10% over confused quotes, then ring em direct and get them to knock the commission off that they would have paid to the comparison site. There's a good feature on moneysavingexpert.com

Our old Octy Vrs we paid £219 f.c protected through Norwich Union we rung loads of places and they wiped the floor by over £100 on all of them..!!!

im with a company called brentacre, they are very good. my renewal was £500 last time round, this time its £300.

Try Chris Knott, they're local (Hawkhurst) and IIRC they are quite competitive.

I'm with Equity Red Star via A-Plan brokers, 26 with only 2 years NCD, £940 :thumbdwn: I tried Chris Knott, Brentacre, and Flux when I renewed in February but they could barely get it any cheaper than who I was with. They all shaft you by about £200 for paying in installments but I really can't afford to pay it all at once. :(

Swinton car Insurance - £2500.

I'm 19 1 years no claims, 2 driving and live in leeds. :(

This is a useful thread. If I may add my 2p worth. I was with Norwich Union a couple of years back and all was great until I had to make a claim (someone ran into my car while it was parked outsode my flat). They wouldn't even let me take my VW to a VW garage for the repair and insisted that I use this dodgy looking outfit that operated out of a set of tunnels under a railway bridge. Not only this but I had to pay for the repair out of my own pocket and they would reimburse me later (up to 3 months later)!?

In the end, the other driver admitted liability and their insurer stepped in (direct line). Suddenly I had a courtesy car, my car was collected and taken to VW for me. It was returned two days later and had been fully valetted.

Other people may have had a more positive experience with NU but they won't be quoting me happy again.

direct crime did that to me too. use cofused.com find the cheapest then go to that particular companies website and then ask for a quote there and get it even cheaper. if you ring up directcrime and tell them you wont be renewing with them i can guarantee they will find away of reducing it by at least £50, have a look at my thread about the same http://briskoda.net/ice-security-insurance/your-insurance-quote/142929/

I've just renewed this week as well. Halifax quoted me £540 renewal on 5 years NCB, 37 years old, car parked on road in East London, 5,000 miles a year. After shopping around Adrian Flux gave me the best quote at £350 including NCB protection and all mods

I'm with them also, but through Adrian Flux.

I heard some bad things about NUD's customer service and claims process on a previous car forum. By contrast DirectLine were quite easy to deal with when I had a bump in 2007.

Anyone one had to make a claim ir had any dealing with elaphant.co.uk?

They are cheapest at the moment at £346 including courtesy car, legal, no claims protection, personal, EU cover, Excess is £350, £250 is voluntary.

Renewal for this year from an IAM deal was £292 ,went on confused.com £190 but only one problem its with SAGA!

2003 octy vrs ,courtesy car ,90 days european ,legal,350 excess ,9+NCD protected.

Personally I would touch Directline with a barge pole. They royally screwed me over when I got hit by their driver. Even with full liability admitted by him and a sucessful conviction by the police they still tried to fight me. In the end they wrote my car off and refused to give me anywhere near its value. On top of all that they demanded the loan car back before the claim was settled.

Try and use a VAG Specalist, you should be able to get an agreed value too then.

Direct line could only go to £382 so they are getting the sack!! :thumbdwn: They were not to friendly either! Adrian flux have beaten Elaphant's quote; £325 with £250 excess, coutesy car and legal with NCB protected. Over £120 saving over my renewal notice:thumbup:.and that was with £500 excess

Moved to Insurance area:)

Mk1 octavia sdi, Im 20, stayin in south side of glasgow, 0 no claims 540, renewal is in september so looking forward to that.

Thats with Admirial who i dont like, i want to go with bell so i can have 3rd party extention

Brentache for me £400 fully comp protected bonus and can modifiy it pretty much how I want. Not bad considering where I live is one of the worst postcodes and its kept on the road.

There are so many things to take into account for a quote if you think how many questions the insurance companies ask all of these are rated differently by different companies, so you shouldn't be surprised that all your insurance prices differ so much.

The morral of the story is shoparound then shop around again.

hi, i have an 04 octy with mods, im 24 with 5yrs no claims everyone quoted me around £900+ so i tried that swiftcover, £420 fullycomp!

Thats with Admirial who i dont like, i want to go with bell so i can have 3rd party extention

Bell, Admiral and Elephant (and Diamond) are all the same people.

i was with Chris Knott, but they quoted £551 with 4 Yrs NCD and no Mods. Had accident 2 yrs ago and live in not so good area.

Got a quote from Adrian Flux and they quoted £525 with all Mods and hire car. Was pleased considering i have a large amount of Mods
