Panasonic FZ28 - South Lakes Wild Animal Park

Featured Replies

If you stay in or visit the Lake District and like taking pictures, do not miss out on the South Lakes Wild Animal Park at Dalton-in-Furness, approx 20min south of Lake Windermere.

Great selection of animals, some of which can be seen at very close quarters.

This is a small selection of what is quite a large collection - thank goodness for digital cameras !

King Vulture

Very nice indeed

Great pictures - I've been a couple of times now and would fully recommend it to any one who is in or around the lake district. Much better than other zoos etc as you can really get close to the animals and for anyone with young kids it can make a great full day out (depending on the weather of course).

It's only 15 miles down the road from me, so must make the effort to get there !!

If you live that close it might be worth getting an annual pass - it allows you to go as many times as you want for (I think) less than double the cost of an ordinary ticket.

That way you should be able to guarantee getting some good weather.

We were lucky - it was pretty overcast and rainy for the rest of our short stay up there.

Still - if it didn't rain, there wouldn't be a Lake District, so shouldn't grumble !

It's been the Costa Del Grange over the past few day's here, even got a tan walking over the Fell's to Cartmel today :D

Thanks for the tip re: the season ticket thing, with an 8 year old daughter these things can be worth their weight in gold

No problem - I know I'd be first in the queue to get one if I lived locally.

I've not come across a better animal park with better access to the animals - and not many wire fence to have to shoot through either

Nice pictures:thumbup: Did you use a tripod when on a long zoom (assuming you were

Didn't use the tripod at all.

All images were taken handheld, the image stabiliser does the rest.

You could touch the lemurs, so the macro function came in pretty handy !

I was lucky with the vulture because it flew onto the rail of the viewing area just at the right time - poor woman stood nearby nearly **** herself !!

Cracking pics - again, and again, and again :thumbup::thumbup::thumbup:
