Could be a coilpack failing, common problem on the 1.8T.

Not a huge issue then, are they expensive and is it a stealer only item?

Thanks

Not that expensive, any VAG dealer will do to get one. Seat, VW, Audi, Skoda all use the same ones and have the same issue with the 1.8T.

You really need to get the codes read though to confirm the problem, and also if its one of the coilpacks which one is playing up. A failed coilpack could lead to unburnt fuel entering the exhaust system and that may explain the smell.

I wouldn't touch these with a barge pole!

Why not matey? Would I be better off going for Vagcom?

if its a coil pack wouldnt it run **** like on 3 cylinders

if its try these OEM - Coil Pack "E" - Single: TT Stuff

and this is the link to the liquid gauge you wanted

Basically they are carp and will fail under load, stick with the VagCom idea.
