front window tints whoooooooooooops

Featured Replies

just got pulled by the old bill in reading because i have light tints on the front:O

he tells me the legal limit is 70% so he puts his meter on my front windows and it came back as 27.1 across 3 points whooooppppssssss

so he then says i will look at my chart and see what we are going to do with you lol

and it says

0%to 24% go to court

25% to 30% and below 3points £60 fine

31 to 65% £30 fine

lucky for me the copper was actually very nice and once i explained i only had it done on sunday etc etc he only gave me a £30 fine and told me when i get home to take them off which i have now cant be botherd with the hassle..

the guy infront of me had an evo and he came back with 25% and it was an old boy copper dealing with him and they gave him 3 points and £60 fine and 3 points for illegal number plates lol and to top off he was on the phone lol not his day atall..:o

this was at prospect park in reading

Did the person that sold you the tints inform you of the legal implications and the percentage of light that would be let through after the tints had been applied?

i think im meant to say no now:P

:D my point being - I think that the law about window tints is fairly common knowledge so I have to ask the question - were you honestly completely unaware that dark tints were illegal? If not - why did you bother doing them? :D

It sounds like you got off very lightly and should count yourself a lucky man - sounds like you got on his good side ;)

Nice waste of cash haha

I don't wear my sunglasses unless it's sunny.

Did you plan on winding your windows down when the sun went behind a cloud, or below the horizon?

I guess the law is there for a reason, but I can't quite think why????

I'm with Westallc here, I had my windows tinted probably about 5 years ago, a light tint on the fronts. At that time, they were legal and I had a certificate from the tinters to demonstrate (keep it in the glove box). I never wear sun glasses and the car is no longer driven after dark (in fact its hardly even driven at all). To date I have never been pulled for these, although I have been pulled for an undersized front number plate (which interestingly could be read by a mobile speed camera!).

I expect the tints are now illegal, but I'm not removing them voluntarily. Light transmission is perfectly good, even on overcast days and at night by street light (not that that is an issue anymore) and I defy anyone of perfectly good sight (corrected in my case with non-tinted glasses) to have poorer resolution of objects with the window open or closed.

Bad luck on only having them on for a week, and didn't you need a replacement rear screen the other week too (or was that another poster)?

aaah sod it

some you win , some you loose :jedi:

you tried it, that what counts

and you woulda got away with it too, if wernt for those pesky pigs lol

im sure we all fracture a law at times

it seems the laws dont know what may or may not be cool :P

glad you got the lesser of the evils mate :nutkick:

yep that was me:mad: rear window smashed after 2 days of tints.....it hasnt gone well:O

did you have that secure-film

that stuff is great, someone did my window on my mk2 golf, and that stuff saved my lully custom leather retrim from a good fudging by all the glass

when the rear window went the film kept it in one piece and still connected to the car or the kids would have been covered in glass not good...:o

really glad it was tinted

Fair dos, we'll agree to disagree:thumbup:, but it does sound like a fairly dark tint!

Glad the film (tinted or not) stopped the glass falling in too, I think all car glass should be laminated like the front screens.

Legal limit 70% and you sat yours were at 27% hardly a very light tint to be stopping 40% more light than the law allows.

Touche
