Fabia horn push

Featured Replies

Only really noticed the other day on my wife's Fabia that the horn push is really hard to press. I know it shouldn't be too easy but finger pressure isn't enough to sound the horn, you have to push the pad with the flat of your hand therefore having to remove said hand from the steering wheel.

Is this normal or is it worth a trip to the dealer?

It was like that on both my Octy and Fabia and my current Cordoba is also like it. Seems to be a VAG group 'thing' :D

It's like that on my Ibiza. You have to give it a good ol' bang!! :D

One side of mine is soft and the other needs a lump hammer!!! Talking to the dealer its not uncommon.......

Mine isn't too bad, requires a push but that is no bad thing, car before had horn at the end of the indicator stalk, you simply pushed it in. Lets just say it was very easy to push it when you indicated!

Yets hope you don't have to use it too often! And to taxi driver that heard mine yesterday :finger:

Mine are quite hard - ooerr!

However I normally go to hit my indicator stalk instead, and either end up flashing my lights or turning the indicators on - Old habits die hard!!

Nothing like a good firm push :)

Went to the dealer this afternoon - distinctly unimpressed! Some service bloke tried to convince my wife that a car doesn't really need a horn and quote '...... it's illegal to use the horn anyway'!!! They will have to check with Skoda whether there's a known fault before undertaking any warranty work.

Checked several other Fabias and found that they vary a lot. On some the horn only works if you hit the pad in the right place. The bottom right corner on my wife's horn pad doesn't always work.

I'm thinking of having a look myself but:

a) Can't work out how to remove the pad - there are two holes at the back of the steering wheel but they don't seem to have screws in them.

B) I'm a bit wary of the airbag!

Thanks for previous comments; any further comments would be appreciated.

The guy that told your wife this, his name wasn't Richard Head was it ?

No. With respect, I don't think it's a good idea to name names on an open forum. Obviously, we are not letting matters rest!

Just don't bang that wheel too hard - you may get a face full of airbag!!! :D

Incidently last time I used my horn was on the M6 when someone tried to side-swipe me. I still think people should use their wing mirrors, quite a useful invention really.

Correct operation of the horn is an MOT pass/fail item. QED.

Illegal after 11pm IIRC.

Any other time of the day it's a legal requirment.

Illegal after 11pm IIRC.
'You MUST NOT sound your horn at night (11.30 pm to 7 am) in a built-up area.' Road Vehicles (Construction & Use) Regulations 1986 - No 99.

I was close enough
