Nope.. I just dont like it!

The new Golf Mk6 that is!

It looks so boring and ordinary in comparison to the Mk5, what is VW playing at? The rear end with those new lights is awful they look so cheap and the front with that new grill looks boring and aimed at people with a pension :thumbdwn:

Also, on the GTI why did they change the exhausts (another mistake) and not give it some new wheels?

I have seen quite a few around, and normally cars grow on me but this one just does not cut the mustard, it looks like the Mk6 and Mk5 should switch places imo.

I love the new VW front end.. and I'm nowhere near a pension :D

I think it's a huge improvement on the Mk5 which just looked like a people carrier. Taillights are definitely wrong though.

Its my favourite Golf since the Mk2. Never did like the Mk5.

Why have Vw and Audi decided to make the rear indicators invisible even when the driver uses them?

You need to be locked up if you think the rear of the mkvi gti looks worse than that of the mkv. sheer lunacy.

I like the MkIV, nice subtle improvement on the MkV, which I also liked

I like the front, but I really don't like the rear lights. It looks like they've made them more bland to help sales in the American market.

@ apinner: perhaps this Golf would be more to your liking?

:D

The styling's better on that one (the W12) than the current Mk6. I agree with the OP. I don't like it. Is it me or is VW just producing a bunch of mongrels ? The new Octavia uses bits of the Superb, the new Octavia vRS uses bits of the Eos, the mk6 Golf clearly uses bits of Seat and I could go on.

VAG will of course use components across ranges, why go through the expense of designing and producing specific parts that all do the same thing?

Nothing new - was what made BL/BMC cars so popular with my generation in our younger days .Need a part - head for the scrappy -nine times out of ten any bit of another model would do-cos basically it was just a different body .

I quite like the new mark 6 golf, got to admit it does look a bit like a astra from the front, but I'm getting a look at one hopefully in the next couple of weeks.

For example, when the temperature sender on my dad's Maestro broke, the response was to get an HIF6 from a scrappie (and IIRC the replacement carb came off an Austin Ambassador), and an HIF rebuild kit from a motor factor. So much for the fuel-saving over-run shutoff valve; the fuel economy actually improved with the manual choke carb.

Nothing new at all really as cars from the same family are bound to share bits and bobs.

The mk1 and 2 Golfs were the best.

Mk3's look bulky and heavy

Mk4 hmmmm looks ok and they drive "nice". I've driven my cousins TDI nothing really special though.

Mk5 - Got good reviews and I think it looks better than the mk4

Mk6 - Think this one looks that bit classier. The Scirocco looks too similar to the Golf tbh.

I like the interior of the new Mark 6: seems better quality to me and would love the new GTI but it is getting very pricey though. For a few grand more you cold have a Focus RS. I don't like the new exhaust lay out to look at but all the tests say they make a nice noise with lots of crackle on the overrun.:D: Will have to blag a drive in one.

I've seen quite a lot about now. I think the front's nice, but don't like the rest of it particularly. The front reminds me of the Scirocco, which is a much nicer looking car.

I never really got to like look of the mk5, though it's quite nice to drive. I liked the mk4 alot, I did alot of miles in one last year and thought it was a really good car. The mk2's always been my favourite, I've driven a GTI a couple of times and had a great time.

This made me laugh - why would you want to spend a few grand more on a Ford Focus? For a few grand more you could have a Merc. or a BMW!

I'm not bothered about image mate. 300BHP and over 400nm or torque for around £27K is cracking value.Goodness knows what you can get with a re-map. The RS is not your run of the mill Focus, rather a limited edition special. Autocar have given it a big thumbs up and have one on long term test. If you are lucky enough to have secured one, then you could probably sell it on for a profit as all this years allocation have gone. Love the sound of that 5 pot as well:thumbup:

It is plug ugly though! It may well have all that power but at the end of the day you've just got a Ford outside on the drive. I don't get it personally but I think that's maybe because Fords are way down on my list of desireable everyday cars.

It's horses for courses at the end of the day, I know Ford are not the best in the image department but they are very nice cars to drive. I think the Focus and the Mondeo in particular have terrific ride/handling balance. I would not turn my nose up at one. An RS is a bit out of my league but I would look at a Focus as well a a Golf when the time comes to change, particularly when the new turbocharged direct injection petrols come out next year.:)

Well said.

At the end of the day I could have bought a Merc or something more "modern" as my Uncle is fond of reminding me that people my age drive "respectable" cars like Beemers, Mercs etc.

But why didnt I - Well first I know my budget and secondly well I'm happy with my car.

I have driven a Ford and I would have got a Fiesta had I the money, they are a hoot to drive!!!

at the end of the day you've just got a Ford outside on the drive.

You think this is supposed to a winning or even good argument on a Skoda website?

In fairness he doesn't own a Skoda, Ken ;)

True, but expecting Skoda owners to care about image just because you spent £2_000 over the odds on a "People's Car" badge is bad logic.
