Strangled Turbo More Grief

Featured Replies

Hi Chaps,

The new Pressure Boost Regulator valve did not cure the problem. After a 100 miles the turbo failed to deliver again. Acting on a tip from another Briskodian, I pulled over and turned off the engine; I restarted immediately and the turbo was OK again. Does this give any of you technical blokes any clue as to the cause?

Thanks for any help, Gibbo

Have you tried to find someone with the VAGCOM diagnostics system ? This might tell you what the problem is and if a fault was recorded for it the VAGCOM will pick it up.

hmmm. unfortunate - The last time my old car did it, it was a new turbo job. They changed the sensor, and the next stop was the turbo itself. :(

Jay could you bolt on the vRS turbo onto you PD100 or is it the same size anyway ?

Don't give him ideas....

But is it a larger turbo ? You might also have to increase the injector size as well.

A friend had this problem with his VW Golf GT TDi 130. It turned out it was a hose somewhere that had become kinked. The first symptom was the turbo only giving boost starting from about 2500rpm, then eventually the boost disappeared completely. Although sometimes if he turned off the engine then on again it would get better.

Thanks chaps, it has been checked out by IML at Plympton on the diagnostic kit and they are going to give it another check tomorrow. will be in touch

Cheers Gibbo

As a quick visual check get them to rev the car when its at a standstill and watch the actuator rod going onto the turbo and check it moves back and forth. It wont move alot but it should move a bit.

Nice thought - maybe one for the future, I was contemplating a complete PD150 swap, but was not worth it. :( If the right stuff comes about at the right price I could be tempted. Would need more than just turbo - injectors too, I'm pretty sure, as said.

Time for a "what's the difference?" thread!

Hi Guys,

Got a new turbo now, all is back to normal. my little Fabby is flying up Haldon Hill again. Had a little water leak from the nearside front passenger door. Water coming into the footwell via the inside of the door. Not much but shouldn't be any; anybody had a similar problem?

Regards Gibbo
