Pioneer AVIC-F700BT - Install in Octavia II

Featured Replies

Hi there, does anyone have any expirience of fitting an AVIC-F700BT or the AVIC-F900BT into an Octavia II ????

I am looking to purchase a unit in a few months and want to install with the minimum amount of fuss and cutting of wires. Obviously I will need a fascia adaptor and I have found the appropriate part.

Will I also need a harness adaptor ? My car is a 2006 MY (Green Calipers) Octavia II vRS Estate. It does NOT have parking sensors or buttons on the steering wheel and currently has the standard Stream unit with 6 CD changer. Out of interest would I loose the CD changer by installing the F700/F900 ??

Also are there any Brisky members who might be interested in helping me do an install, obviously would be willing to compensate for someone with a bit of knowledge !!

Looked into this unit myself a few months ago, have a look at the following link:

Come back to us if you want to know anything more about the Pioneer stuff, I did quite a bit of homework into it.... before deciding against bothering! But yes, you can get the MF steering wheel to work as well as loads of other stuff like bluetooth phone and saatnav if you want it, you just have to pay for the extra modules. It ain't that cheap! Generically, most headunits will have a cable to connect a changer, especially an OEM one, again, you normally just need an adaptor. You just usually can't plug another makes in, ie. an Alpine Changer into a Kenwood H/U. But it has been a few years since I bought a full set-up so even that may have changed!

I fitted a F900bt to my vrs estate and whilst it looked lovely the interface was really slow on the head unit coupled with the hassle of locating the speed pulse and the expense of the can bus adaptor I sent it back and opted for the Kenwood DNX 8220Bt which needs no speed pulse and I have been pleased with it which has suprised me as i always have had Pioneer but I was so dissapointed with the F900BT.

Hope this helps but I may have had a dodgey one.

peanut - if you don't own the Pioneer yet, I strongly urge you to consider an OEM RNS 510 instead. They're fantastic. I've just switched after many happy years with a Kenwood double din head unit and nav.

See http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=220403616635 (ends today). The going rate for them, buy it now on ebay is 600 quid but you might snaffle this one even cheaper.

Hi Peanut,

I had a F900BT fitted just before Xmas, and considering the amount of money I paid for it, the performance (particularly on the Nav side of things) can be a little bit frustrating and disappointing.

I had mine fitted by a guy called Chris at Chorley Car Audio - a really sound bloke who posts regularly on the VR32 Owners Club Forum. Do a search on there (or maybe drop him an e-mail) and I'm sure he will help you out.

The installation was fairly striaghtforward and only took a couple of hours at most - the majority of time was spent in running the blue tooth mic wires up the side pillar.

Cheers all, that's really helpful. wega3k, I have my eye on that particular unit already - only problem I have with the RNS 510 is the expense of upgrading to bluetooth, whereas the Pioneer has it built in. Interestingly enough I believe Pioneer have new v2.0 firmware for the F700/F900 but I still think it is slow to boot up. Might take a longer look at the Kenwood offerings now though.....Any more thoughts welcome......

I should never have let all my Kenwood stuff go with my last car. If you're going to look at the Kenwood units, the older KNA-DV3200 nav is still a fantastic bit of kit. Very fast and nice to use. I *think* it's used in Jag XJs and others. It's the one I had and I think it's better than the Garmin based ones they did later. The current integrated nav / double din Kenwood monitors are nice though.

My understanding is that the OEM unit won't take a full UK 7 digit post code or allow you to add your POI? If thats true then even at 600 quid I wouldn't want one..

Correct it doesnt take 7 Digit postcodes but once you get to know how to use it its really not a problem.

You can add POI's using POI Inspector. it's just a bit of a long winded process thats all

I Have a RNS 510 and IMHO it is way way way better than any other aftermarket satnav despite not having 7 digit postcode search

You tap in the first 4 / 5 characters then it lists a handful of streets which you pick and select the house number. It's not anything like such an issue as I thought it would be.

The boot-up time on the Pioneer is not really an issue since the firmware update. It's usually sorted itself out buy the time you have belted up/lit a fag/needlesly messed with your mirrors for a while.

Thought I would let you all know that just prior to Christmas I treated myself to a Pioneer AVIC-F310BT headunit in order to qualify for the free Ipod promo that they were running in Nov and Dec 09. Yesterday I finally got around to fitting the unit having purchased all the necessary fitting bits n' pieces a few weeks back. The install was straightforward and made even simpler by using the CAN-BUS adaptor which picked up the switched 12v feed and the Illumination feed, without having to find them myself.

The hardest part was running the microphone from the drivers A-pillar to the HU. However this was made much easier by removing the lower dash section beneath the steering column. I was then also able to see the dead-space just to the right of the HU where I tucked the excess cables. The GPS aerial cable was about 5m long and I needed less than 1m, because I attached it to the bulkhead cross-member behind the upper dash storage box. The only other slight issue with the install was the lack of space to tuck away the cables behing th HU, so I would recommend some cable ties to keep everything neat and tidy.

I drilled a 16mm hole in the bottom of the upper dash storage box and passed a USB Ipod cable through the hole and connected to the back of the HU. I now have somewhere to plug in the Iphone that is well hidden from view.

For fitting into a Skoda Octavia II pre-2007 (Stream HU) I used the following parts, all of which I can assure fit well and are of good quality:

Pioneer AVIC-F310BT HU circa £500

Pioneer CD-IU50 Ipod lead circa £20

Connects2 CTSSK002 CAN-BUS interface lead circa £40

Connects2 CT23SK01A Double-DIN conversion kit circa £40

Connects2 CT27AA14 Fakra Aerial Adaptor circa £8

Overall it is an excellent HU. Sound quality is better than standard Stream, Navigation is accurate and detailed. Bluetooth works brilliantly and call quality is crisp and clear. I am yet to try the Ipod interface but I expect it will also be very good.

I have to say that whilst it doesn't look as OEM as an MFD3 it has got to be better value than a potentially hooky unit from eBay. I get 12 months warranty, bluetooth and ipod integration plus full 7-digit postcode recognition and a detachable fascia for security to name but a few things an eBay MFD3 does not have. Well pleased as you can probably tell. Pictures to follow in the next day or two.

Look forward to that i am looking at options at the moment

Right, here you go Richf et al.............

My link

Nice - but still prefer my MFD3

Nice headunit, but the cheap tacky autoleads dash adapter lets the side down badly. I still prefer the apearence and opeation of my Columbus, as it looks like its always been there.
