anyone owned an old subaru?

Featured Replies

hey all, brothers mate let me drive his old p reg estate 2l turbo impreza tonight, was rather impressed, quite fancy one, anyone had the pleasure/displeasure of owning one? what are they like to run?

I had a '93 Legacy Turbo for about 6 months, great car to drive, the interior trim was a bit erm well Jap (plasticy).

Running costs are a joke though, cambelt change is ideally an engine out job, IIRC i paid about £1,200 for the cambelt, clutch & flywheel (they are prone to cracking) to be changed, that was with mates rates (£100 labour) this was about 11 years ago!

Would i have another? Not if i was paying for the running costs no.

blimey!!! thats off putting, the one i drove clutch felt funny, bite was very high, said something about it was just the slave cylinder or someting leaking and the clutch was fine.....and yes he is selling it haha

My Father owns a 1996 Scoobie Impreza Turbo and loves it. I'm sure with the Impreza it you do not have to remove the engine to change the cambelt, it must be only the Legacy. If you want more info go look at SIDC and Scoobynet forums .

It didn't HAVE to be removed, but considering the clutch was being done at the same time it was a lot easier.

Don't forget these are quad cam boxer engines so are very wide - the full width of the engine bay.

well it got taken to a garage and guy said fly whell and clutch were cracked, £300 to change and supply clutch, and he said about fly wheel for me to source one myself? any reason why?

Mine had to be ordered through Subaru, can't remember the exact price but it was around £200 - £300 IIRC

A mate had a Legacey est, sold it last year with just under 400.000m on the clock and still going well, replaced it with a 5 year old 3.0 outback just run in at 100,000m. All he does is have them serviced when required.

Used to drive Forester autos as police cars a few years back. Not bad as a car, running costs were rather high.
