Would the insurance replace a Delaminating Windscreen?

Featured Replies

Hi all, as above...would my insurance replace my windscreen as its started to delaminate as do most mk2 octavias?

Is this a serious safety issue and would it reduce the strength of the screen?

I also think it maybe causing my dash to creak in the corners, packing between the dash and windscreen stops the creaking noises.

The dash never creaked when i got the car in july, and has started in the past couple of months.

If i was to phone my insurance and query a replacement, obviously accepting my windscreen excess.

Would they replace it, or does it effectively need to be cracked?

Many Thanks In Advance

Dan.

Nothing a hammer wouldn't fix ;)

Spot on guys, many thanks!

Will have to get in contact with them tomorrow, i do have windscreen cover as im fully comp.

Personally I'd not bother unless it's delaminated a lot.

The bottom of the windscreen is starting to go a fair bit, maybe 1-2cm.in some places

Its the continous creaking thats annoying me the most, and the noise doesn't come from the diffuser vents :(

I've pretty much done most of the car up, new upper and lower arms on the rear/ front wishbones, eibach springs, new alloys, clifford alarm, new front brakes, new turbo, replaced the interior. Starting to wonder if it would be more worth while going for a Seat Ibiza Sport 130.

The delaminating screen almost certainly won't stop creaking and the fitting of a new screen will likely cause more creaks.

I'd honestly leave it until you get a stone chip or something as your insurance will be affected, even though the no claims isn't.

Never had my insurance affected by Windscreen claims, and because of my high mileage I have had a quiet a few over the years.

General Rule is that if its a MOT fail then its broken, If not & you dont fancy blagging it find out who your Insurance cos approved repairer is, Find one of their depots (yellow pages or Google) & pop in for a chat, they all need the work & can be suitably understanding if its marginal ;)

It is replaced FOC by Skoda if you are still in warranty. I had mine done a couple of months back. If not then yes insurance will pay you will just pay the excess.

True

If its a known fault worth trying with Skoda even if its out of warranty, you might save the excess.

I bought the car second hand from a independant dealer, its actually not as bad as i initially thought it was.

Looked at the screen today and it was only a delaminating a few mm up on the drivers side.

Will see how it pans out.

Doesnt matter if secondhand or not.

If its a MK2 less than 3 years old Skoda will replace the windscreen FOC.

Mine sounded similar to yours. Took it to local dealers, they had a look, ordered a new screen (took about 3 days to come iirc) and got it fitted at my convienience which took about 30 mins but had to leave due to bond needing 4 hours to set

I got the car last july at 3 1/2 years old, so wouldn't have been able to go to skoda then.

Many thanks to everyone involved in providing me with help.

noticed mine starting to do the same front and rear.

I've not noticed it on the rear window as of yet.

iirc the skoda warrenty is 3 years so im gonna leave it till this time next year and get it done then as im sure it get worse.

I'll need to have a look at mine tomorrow, never realised there was a known issue with them.

Does anyone know if there is a UV reflective windscreen available like there are on a lot of other cars?

would make a nice wee upgrade if changing the front screen.
