New Octavia vRS?

Featured Replies

Hi All,

Saw an add in the paper the other day for the new golf gti, which is being heralded as the most true to the idea of the original golf in many years. And the engine, a 2.0l turbo, with 0-60 in around 7 secs. Could this be the new unit they will stick into the new vrs? If so the mods could be endless....

Damo

sounds likely......200bhp

It hasn't been denied by Skoda...

well my dealer said it is more than likely but they also said they have made them harder to re-map.

has anyone else heard this?

has jabba or other companies started to work on the new cars already?

Have been speaking to a couple of dealers over the last couple of weeks about the possibility of a new vRS. Dealers have been told they can order the old model until until May 05 and they do not expect the new model to be released til very late 05. They have not been told that there definately will be a vRS of the new model as it is no longer required as the Octy is no longer used for WRC. However, general consensus is that Skoda will do something but that it will more than likely be a tweaked 2.0 TDi unit

A reputable source tells me this is the case :grumpy:

Harder I guess, but not impossible. Give the software companies time to examine the new ECU's and I am sure something will happen, it took a while before the 1.8T could be remapped as well dont forget.

I guess we won't see any progress until the Golf GTi is tested for a remap by Jabba, etc.

Been talking to a Skoda dealer today, and he says that the new Octy vRS will have the 2.0T FSI (200bhp) engine with the 6 speed gearbox.

Anyone want a 2.0 FSI chip. :D

I have read an interview of Christian(?) Abt, in which he stated that the new 2.0T fsi will be at least as 'upgradable' as the 1.8t

makes sense, doesnt it?

why would VAG want to eliminate one of its most profitable weapons?

also I have heard that in the U.S there will be 2.0T without FSI

what do you know about this?

  • 1 month later...

Well i dont know weather the new engine can be remaped but i do know it will be the 2.0 liter turbo engine but can someone explane to me why is the octavia rs a 5 speed and not a 6 speed?

The engine spec is to in debate at Skoda. I've heard rumours of the existing 1.8T, including the 2.0T and a whopping 3.2T V6.

Its only a matter of time before we know...

I've heard from Skoda people it will be the new 2.0 FSi turbo, as fitted to the new Golf GTi, and dont rule out a 2.0 TDi option either.

I can imagine remapping the engine will be quite envolved, FSI doesnt work like you normal engine, when in FSI mode it runs more like a diesel. And has another cat in the tailpipe which cant be removed!

Having said that to get an FSI to run in full lean burn mode I think you need min of 99 ron fuel, could cause a few problems.

My dealer has said that at the Skoda training sessions the talk is that the facelifted Octavia vRS is likely to be available in 2006 and it is likely to be a turbodiesel, just like the Fabia vRS.

what exactly is an FSi engine? and how does it differ from the 1.8T?

It differs massively.

Having done the training course this week on FSi's its not very easy to write down.

Fuel is injected directly into the cylinder as opposed to being injected into the inlet manifold. The FSi is a 16valve unit, and if you look at the design of it the FSi unit has more in common with the PD engine than the 1.8T in how it works (that why FSi's can tend to be a bit louder).

Sounds increasingly likely to be FWD and the 200 BHP Golf GTi engine (which may not be a bad thing - magazines have been giving it glowing reviews, including this months Evo). My hopes of a twin turbo V6 estate and 4WD are shattered though. :(

I was speaking to my dealer last week when my car was getting serviced. He was saying that one of his guys at just been up at skoda central on a seminar/training course, and the question of the new Octavia VRS arrose.

According to him, the final engine variant has not yet been fully decided, however the R32 engine coupled with the 4x4 transmission is looking good.

How accurate this info is is questionable, as it may have been a 'what if' rather than a 'what will' conversation.

If it does happen I may need to speak to my dealer about a trade in....

Hmmm, I suppose I'd prefer this to the 2.0 FSI Turbo. I just hope they do an easier to clean interior this time round!

I was speaking to my dealer today after mine got serviced. He said that it could be the same engine as the new golf GTi but it could also be a tweaked diesel lump.
