Ipod - Dension unit - Dance HU

Featured Replies

Not sure if this is the best area to post in but I wondered if anyone else has had the Dension gizmo fitted to enable their ipod to be played and controlled via the "Dance" radio?

I have an 80GB ipod Classic (5th generation apparently) and when I connect it to the adapter (which sits in the top glove box) the readout on the radio just says "Aux In ..." and resolutely refuses to pick up the ipod .

From what I understand, the Dension enables the various ipod functions to be controlled as though it were a CD changer.

Would be interested to know if anyone else has had problems. If anyone has a similar setup and it's working, would be useful to know which ipod.

Cheers,

Jess

i don't know what the dension thing is but i don't see why you can't use headphone/lineout of ipod to aux in (3.5mm to 3.5mm)

I opted for the Skoda supplied ipod adaptor with my new Fabia. It's the only aspect of the car that has seriously disappointed me.

The sound quality is very poor indeed and the display/controls on the Dance almost impossible to fathom.

I've just referred this to the after sales team at my dealer (I've only had the car 2 weeks and the ipod adaptor less than a week since it wasn't in stock when I collected the car!). I have made it quite clear that this is not acceptable quality and very poor value for the £191 + VAT that they have charged me for it.

I suspect (hope) that the problem may be with the installation rather than the hardware.

As a business client I am confident that they will find a way of sorting it - after all we are a growing business and will probably need to add to our fleet more quickly than a private buyer would change their car...

Just to let you guys know that this still isn't resolved.

The standard Dension Gateway 100 that Skoda supplies to dealers produces attrocious sound quality on Fabias with maxidot display. Apparently this can be rectified by using a Dension Gateway 300 instead. Unfortunately it seems that this isn't possible in you have the Skoda supplied/dealer installed Bluetooth kit because this uses the same socket on the Dance head unit (despite not using the car's speakers and not muting the radio volume) as the gateway 300 (the Gateway 100 uses a different socket).

I'll let you know if the dealer finds a resolution.

I'm a Dension dealer and although I've never fitted a Gateway to a Fabia II I can't see how Maxidot or a GW300 could possibly make a blind bit of difference.

Where are you located? I'd be interested to take a look at the car.

BTW, if they charged you £191+VAT I'm putting my prices up...

Thanks,

I'm in Yorkshire if you want a look, however as this is currently a dispute subject to the Sale of Goods Act I'd like to give them every opportunity to resolve it before I ask anyone else to do anything with it.

OK, I'm in Mansfield. Let me know if you'd like me to take a look at any point.

It seems that the best solution my dealer can offer is to remove the Skoda UK supplied Dension ipod adaptor and the bluetooth phone adaptor and replace them with a Parrot MKi9200.

I'm not going to complain since they're paying for it.

This is the best way. You wont get the full functions of the gateway as it won't talk to the Maxidot and the parrot is the best comprimise as it's independant. I even run a Wi Drive through mine

I had the Skoda unit installed on mine. Sound quality was really bad like being played under water. I remembered reading something on the net about a wiring issue with the Dance HU. Found the website on the garage pc and they printed a copy out, disapeared for 10 minutes and came back with a crystal clear sounding ipod adapter. Just spent 10 mins looking for the website but can't find it!

This has now been done free of charge and I have to say that I'm very happy. The Parrot is everything that the Skoda supplied items should have been.

It's easy to pair with phones and offers better phone integration than the Skoda supplied bluetooth.

It provides great sound quality and ipod navgiation is so much easier than with the Skoda supplied Dension unit.

I'm very happy that my problem is now resolved and would recommend this Parrot unit to anyone who wants phone and/or ipod in their Fabia.
