Autocar drives the V6 4x4 Superb

Featured Replies

They obviously didn't drive it hard enough.....23mpg  ...more than three times better than some managed  ....and the 170 bhp crtdi is a far better car to drive than the v6

I think it looks fantastic and I'd love to see the estate version although from reading the comments on autocar by the readers it doesn't have many fans. People just cant accept that skoda make great cars now. Why dont they believe the thousands of people who fill in the power surveys praising their cars.:confused:

...if you like tractors

Lots of us drove both on the same day and the general concensus was that the 170 crtdi was far better than the v6

Wouldn't go quite that far but the drivetrain of the V6 was given a thorough testing on the 'Briskoda' testing day ................................. I wonder if they had an empty car park to play in too? :rubchin:

How is the 170 TDI like beyond 5,000 rpm?

Oh? What was that?

Would still have the V6 over the CRD

But would you be able to afford to run it

48mpg ...Vs ...7.9mpg

I't not that bad. My long term average is 22 mpg with a lot of city driving and sometimes using quick accelerations. But don't buy it for it's fuel efficiency.

I've got the 170CR, but only because it's the sensible choice.

I'd have gone for the V6, without any hesitation, except that I couldn't afford to run it (not privately, or as a company car).

Bagpuss.

Well the 140cr is the sensible choice , its the having to fill the thing up every 300 miles that would drive me mad.

But to achive 7.9mpg you need about 20 members of briskoda " Test Driving " it ;)

When i took it for a longer drive it got 28mpg.

On the motorway driving it normally(ish) it was averaging 36mpg from Epsom to Gatwick.

I did like the comments on there about that E class drivers wouldnt consider one , well i replaced my E class with a Superb and last night i spotted another taxi (yet to see a Superb on the road that isnt a taxi) owned by a company known for their fleet of silver E class Mercedes

Pryors

interesting how they commented on the "knobbly" ride. I have to admit that is the aspect of the car I least like and is a disappointment as everything else in the car is great.

How do you compare your Superb against your Merc E? Likes / dislikes etc.

I guess a lot of it is done to personal taste , there is not getting around the superb is not a pretty car and the latest E Classes are quite nice , i had the earlier W210 model though

Truthfully i miss the 6 cylinder engine I find the CR engine rough as a badgers whatnot and i am really hoping it will smooth out with more miles , i suspect it will

I also miss the cruise control on the Merc , its a big stalk like the indicator stalk and very easy to use just pull towards you to set, up and down lower/increase the speed and push away to cancel , i find the Superbs cruise fiddy

My Mercedes had the lingutronic option , ie voice recognition for the phone and stereo, great option but the Superb phone integration is light years better same with the Sat Nav

The leather and trim are better on the Mercedes as well but then price has to be remembered there

The hooks in the boot of the skoda for hanging your shopping on are great as well , little touches are important , shopping bags would always end up all over the place in the Mercedes

The xenon handlamps are also awesome in the Superb

There is a awful lot more to like with the skoda plus the dealer locally (Ashmore Green) is really good , i couldnt find a decent Mercedes dealer anywhere , i'm not sure they exist
