Thinking of getting a VRS....

Featured Replies

Hello folks

Not been on here for a fair while....

I am toying with the idea of getting a Fabia VRS - seen a low mileage silver one from a dealer for £8k - they offered me a reasonable amount for my 207 GT....

I've owned lots of VAG cars before and really want another - not had the 207 long but had a few problems and read horror stories about lots more :(

I've had a VRS a few years back and loved it - my GT is 150 bhp and has 177 llb of torque - I have to say the chassis is a beaut, its great fun down a twisty back road...

However, as i said its been to the dealers 4 times already ! 30 mpg is starting to get a bit annoying as well.....

Anyway - any advice on here would be nice - I remember it being a friendly place !

If I go for one I'd like to up the BHP to about 150-160 - whats the best way of achieving this ?

thanks

oh one other quick thing - does the cd player play mp3's ?

No.

Remap will give you 160-170.

If you get a good one it will be not far off that anyway. They are in the 140bhp + region standard from what we have seen on the rollers, lucky me is 151bhp standard!

No MP3, need to make a audio cd.

ASZ engines made 140. Newer enginers made 150+BHP.

thanks folks

faboka - what do you mean by ASZ engines made 140 ?

A remap alone will you get well past your BHP requirements!

cheers - I'm new to all this

any recommendations for re-maps ?

Definitely get one mate - the torque alone will blow you the fu*k away! I absolutely blasted home from work tonight - properly hoofed the **** out of it and loved every minute. I turned into my driveway and checked my average MPG and it was 59.9! The roads were quite quiet and the lights were on my side, but even so, the way I drove the thing, I'd expect low 30's or worse if it was a petrol.

JabbaSport custom if you can get there (RR runs before and after). P-Torque if you're based that way (RR runs again) and Motech/Richard Washbrook if you want a load-and-go (no RR runs, but it will definitely feel faster).

Beware remapping cars if you don't know how they've been driven. If the Turbo or clutch are weak, or the inlet manifold is full of carp from the EGR being constantly on recirculation, then a remap could be way to big bills in the near future, especially on a low mileage car. I would suggest putting 5-10,000 miles on it before getting it remapped, just to avoid any unpleasantness.

Different engine codes. I think they are ASZ and BLT in the vRS. Don't know which came first, but by the sounds of it the BLT are more powerful, but I believe have a stutter issue due to emission regulation changes.

From new ASZ engines were quoted at 130bhp.by VW but after 15,000 miles and the piston rings bedding in most are between 140 &150 bhp.

??

Yes BLT and tats what I have. I had the EGR gasket changed under warranty and the stutter problem was removed.

So if they are near 150bhp standard, a remap to 170-180 shouldn't really in theory put that much extra strain on turbo and clutch?

....Shouldn't a remap easily see 200bhp then?

Can do, depends on the map and driver. Just because they are slightly up on power doesn't mean the clutch and turbo are built to take more and no they won't go anywhere near 200 with a map.
