Popped boost hoses, is the car mapped? yes blew the top and bottom ones off the intercooler

Broken Aircon (Is the aircon serviced per latest VAG recommendations) yes turned out to be a broken wire under the car (took a year and a half for me to find)

Yeh you can get a lemon with just about any make and model. A mate has a Merc C class 18 months old, and out of that 18 months it's been in the dealers for 6 months total.

The dash had a small fire, the aircon leaked all the gas into the cabin, the gearbox exploded, the ABS failed 6 times, plus a whole stack of electrical/engine management problems. Pity the poor sod who buys that second hand :rotz:

The 1.4 16v engine is roughly based on the same one that came in the Polo 6n/6n2 - as is the gearbox and they are that models weakspot!

hold on a sec guys... the problems we're talking about here - are they related to the 1.4 8-valve or the 1.4 16-valve? or do both of these cars have the same gearbox? cos i know that for sure there's a difference of around 15 or 20bhp between the two engines.

I've only had the leaky rear doors (Easy self fix) and the washer pipe pop off (easy self fix).... so far.
