Central locking problem

Featured Replies

Hi,I have a problem with the central locking on my 1900 TDI estate, all was well and now it still locks and opens BUT when driving along after about 5 mins the locking system seems to try to reset it's self and makes the clunking noise like it's trying to lock up the car.

Anyone got an idea of the fault?????????

Fault code scan might throw up a code which helps in pinning down strange faults, but my money would be on control module for central locking. Could even be one of the micro switches failing under vibration.

Thanks for that.

As I say the system still locks and opens OK,but as I am very skint at the moment do you think it will keep on working as it is or will it do a lock down and leave me stranded?

Or is it a case of how long is the piece of string.

I have has a similar problem going on over a year. Have had it looked a in three different garages when the car was in for other stuff. None of them a main dealer but am not willing to pay their rates. No faults show up on a scan. In addition to doing as yours does my front passenger door will unlock any time I use the central locking button mounted on the drivers door, sometimes when the passenger door is closed the whole car locks up. Also having troubles with the boot latch which may or may not be related. Very frustrating.

I don't think it should leave you stranded so to speak, as you can always open the door on its own. The lock itself is mechanical and works without the battery, just only one door will open.

Mine seems to do something simular after it rains, when you open the drivers door, the others lock and unlock quickly and repeatly for a few seconds.

My passenger door is behaving itself for the first time in months but the drivers door is now acting up. The lock is fine but the internal light has stopped switching on when I open it, as has the red warning light on the door itself. Given that my headlights on buzzer stopped working a while back I guess I'm now looking at repairing or replacing the drivers side lock. :( Have looked into it and am hoping of I strip it down that its just moisture or poor connections or cracked solder. The dealer was vague when asked for a price €80 - €130 + vat.

Hi,

I got the same fault with the central locking. You press the button to lock and the all the doors lock and the 4 doors lock and the passenger door clicks back up. .

I have replaced the battery to see if its that but it not, I have also had water coming in to the passenger foot well and can cause electrical faults and a link to how to fix it is I feel and had no water after a bucket test. http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/153416-leaking-water-ingress-funny-smell-inside-car/.

One more thing I have noticed with the fault is that I have electric heater on my wing mirrors and the passenger side is not clearing easy as the drivers side.

Did you fix the fault and what was the problem?

Please let me know what caused the fault and look forward to hearing back soon.

Many thanks,

Andrew
