Viper green with envy

Featured Replies

A few months ago I was considering a new Scirocco. Decided against it, because a nearly new VRS was much better value and at 6'7" I was borderline too tall for it. However, up until today I'd only seen white, red, blue and black ones. Today on the M1 I saw one in Viper Green and it looked utterly stunning. I'd seen the colour in magazines and on the web before and thought it was quite nice, but in the metal it's incredible. If I'd seen one in that colour before I bought the VRS, I'd have bought the Scirocco.

vw_scirocco_mk1.jpg - alas, like I said, no photo remotely does it justice

Anyone else seen one for real? What did you think to it?

There are 3 of them parked up at a local VW dealer up here.

Stunning colour in the flesh.

Just specced one up on broadspeed and with the options I'd want it's over 24k - more than double what I paid for my VRS :(

I test drove one on sat.

It was the first time out for me in a car with DSG. I can only say the ride was so soft and the power was there when/if you needed it.

I did many different roads to see if I could handle the DSG and the car. I had a great weekend and walked away lost after driving a mk6 golf gti to find out the price!

I left happy with the price they offered for the Clio but shocked with the price for a golf.

The Mk6 Golf GTI prices begger belief, even if you try and keep the options down. It's a nice car for sure, but I think they've pushed the prices too far time, especially given the current climate. The Scirocco seems better value, especially when you take into account the GT TSI has adaptive suspension as standard.

I like the pic of the Scirocco; what's that German registered Renault doing in the background though?

Oh now that is a horrible thing to say!

I am absolutely serious though; the first time I saw a "nueu Scirocco" out of context, I mistook it for a Renault coupe until it was close enough that I could see the badge properly.

I've seen one in that colour, one in red, and a silver one. The green is lovely. Mind you, that MK1 is lovely as well.

the only thin that is still making me um and err about the scirocco is the drab, and old, interior. It's essentially mv golf / eos based. It's all very well having a car that looks that nice from the outside, but it's the inside where you spend most of the time.

Don't get me wrong, the quality of the interior is good, it's just drab imo.

Viper Green does not look like like in the metal! I've seen a few about and they appear more of a nasty pea-green :(

I think the interior on them is ok - better with the leather. My biggest complaint is the terrible internal door door pulls. Huge great triangular plastic affairs that are just sub-par. They creak SO badly.

The mkvi gti definitely feels a lot plusher inside.

I don't get it though. There were rumours before the mkvi golf appeared that it was cheaper for vw to make than the mkv. However, everyone reckons it feels more expensive on the inside. So what have VW used to spend less but make it seem plusher? Some sort of voodoo magic?

Lots of manufacturers have increased their prices due to this government scrapage scheme.

true but the new golf was out some time before this was announced. Maybe VW predicted the car scrappage scheme would become reality though.

Well, it's been going in Germany for a while so they must have thought it would reach other countries.

I loved it inside. I *like* dark interiors that some think are drab, and I hate the gaudy silver bits that seem to have become fashionable in some cars.

I saw one and thought it looked like a frog! White would be my colour of choice I think!

Good choice, that or blue for me :)

I see a green one nigh on every morning on the way into work & I personally think it looks horrendous.:thumbdwn:

Blue, Grey or White if I was speccing one:thumbup:

I've seen a green one around here quite a few times and I love the look of it, I really like it in red too :)

Well that proves it, Ken ONeill thought it was a Renault :D

I had a old Scirroco II GL for 14years thought it was a fantastic car, the room inside was very limited thou especially when you have 2 kids but I made do......When the new scirroco was about to be released I thought thats the car for me, based on the previous car and the misses agreed, however seeing it in the flesh it hasnt got anywhere near the character as the old one, the front end looks alright...but they have got the rear completely wrong IMO looks teribble no matter what colour it is. The interior is basic and those triangular door handles...yuk sorry not for me and rear end..no no no loved the curved glass and spoiler on the old one and the squareness of the front PS is was a dark green colour...brings back memories

am i the only one who thinks the new scirrocco looks proper gay? And that green is awefull,i've seen a few in the flesh and allways wondered about the people that buy cars in those colours, out of all the nice colours you could of picked you pick that one:rotz:

This was my Mk1 Scirocco from 1980, it was a 1.6 GLS Automatic - 3 speed I think.

It had Tombstone style seats and VW called that green metallic Kohl Rabi after a vegetable!! Personally, allowing for the somewhat faded photo, it doesn't look too bad even by today's standards.
