Viper green with envy

Featured Replies

This was my Mk1 Scirocco from 1980, it was a 1.6 GLS Automatic - 3 speed I think.

It had Tombstone style seats and VW called that green metallic Kohl Rabi after a vegetable!! Personally, allowing for the somewhat faded photo, it doesn't look too bad even by today's standards.

That's nice. I always wanted a Mk1- I had several Mk2s.

I loved it inside. I *like* dark interiors that some think are drab, and I hate the gaudy silver bits that seem to have become fashionable in some cars.

I'm not over-keen on coal-hole black everywhere, although it's better than sh!t beige. ;) And I dislike pointless fake aluminium and fake carbon fibre bling too.

Specifically some variety of cabbage!

Prices will also have gone up due to rubbish pound:euro exchange rate which they will have seen 6-9 months ago

I had a old Scirroco II GL for 14years thought it was a fantastic car, the room inside was very limited thou especially when you have 2 kids but I made do......When the new scirroco was about to be released I thought thats the car for me, based on the previous car and the misses agreed, however seeing it in the flesh it hasnt got anywhere near the character as the old one, the front end looks alright...but they have got the rear completely wrong IMO looks teribble no matter what colour it is. The interior is basic and those triangular door handles...yuk sorry not for me and rear end..no no no loved the curved glass and spoiler on the old one and the squareness of the front PS is was a dark green colour...brings back memories

Since we have a MkI heres a photo of my MkII........Do things really get better with time??? :rotz::rotz:.......certainly not my spelling "Scirocco"

I like the pic of the Scirocco; what's that German registered Renault doing in the background though?

My thoughts exactly. I spent a long time looking at the pic thinking "but that's an old Scirocco", and "why is that Renault there?".

I sooooo want a new Scirocco, especially in Blue!

Another anti-vote here for the new shape Scirocco I'm afraid, I've seen quite a few about and the more I see the less I like them, think the shape looks "odd" but not in a nice way, I wonder if it's one of those cars that will become unfashionable quite quickly ?.

It's not just me then :D

I quite like them I think...

but certainly not enough to fork out Volkswagen prices!

TBF, I think the scirocco is very competitively priced. The petrol 2.0tsi gt model can be had for £19k through drive the deal. I can't see how that could be considered overpriced for what it is.

How much is a similarly engined Golf, Leon or Octy2 vRS on DTD?

But they're a hatch, hatch, and saloon respectively.

The 'rocco is a coupe :)

FWIW ... the only similar engined golf is the gti which starts at £22k with discounts of just £300 approx being offered through brokers. A Leon FR again doesn't offer large discounts so you're looking at a shade under the £18.5k list. Drive the deal have a good price of £14.6k on an octy vrs when i looked yesterday but that's the run out models that are being cleared out. Bother the leon and octy are in the process of being cleared out in favour of facelift models so the pricing is a bit haywire.

As babs said though, none of the other cars are sports coupes. The scirocco is aimed to compete with the 1 series coupe and audi tt and I think it offers a great overall pachage compared to these vehicles.

Which suggests to me that there's a lot of people who feel the Scirocco doesn't offer a lot of extra style for all the packaging compromises that "sports coupe" implies.

Sorry, I don't understand what you're trying to say there.
