Mongrel on track, tank dodging!

Featured Replies

Was the Bovington Camp Help for Heroes trackday today. An awesome setup with 4.2 miles of rolling smooth concrete reserved for trackday use. Cones made it very interesting at some points as my expletive at one set early on proves. :D Got one lap then got told off for passenger recording, which I'd not realised was verboten! :o I got well over 20 laps in in total I reckon. Just kept wanting to go out and do some more!

Sad to see some totalled cars though. One MX5 rolled, and a 54 plate M3 went backwards into some rocks at speed and totally shagged the back end! :( Some other cars were damaged too.

Here's the vid. It was nice to have caught up the WRX. Also saw off an Evo VIII, Corvette, New RS4 avant, and some other exotic machinery too.

YouTube - Skoda Fabia TDI Help For Heroes trackday Bovington Camp. One lap.

Fantastic video - downloaded it onto my ipod, if you don't mind, using Keepvid

A fairly dated Sony Handycam that uses those little tiny tapes. Was a bit wobbly though, eh? But my driving is to blame for that.

Nope, my road going Toyo T1R tyres. They were faultless all weekend, although I now have two worn out tyres on the left side.... Rear one (front at Llandow) is pretty much toast, and the front left from today is "worn" but still got some good tread left. Wasn't as wearing as I feared initially.

Oddly my drivers tyre (inside on the clockwise track) was the one that suffered the most at Hullavington. I was very impressed indeed by Eagle F1s - they actually lasted longer than expected on the day and when they got warm they performed better than normal (on the road).

I take it you turn the ASR off to go around the track? :)

your inside wheel is wearing due to you hoofing it and spinning up the inside wheel :)

jasons is the outside as he has an LSD.

TC off everytime

and J, "pretty much toast" ?!?!?!?!

Thanks - makes sense! But I don't think it was spinning all that often... maybe on the sharpest corners though - which I guess would make a big difference.

i thought it was going to be 6.7miles and they dident show the cones on the promo video!!!!!!

how come that all changed ?? do you know??

nice lap well done

OMG the challi 2

awsome bit of kit and OMG do they vibrate the ground

I miss it.

they had to build the chicanes to keep speeds down to a somewhat sensible level.

looking good J, plenty of people were impressed with the mongrel  the Focus went alright, but had a couple of passenger laps in Simon's Evo X - awesome

Tyres sounded like they were taking a hammering matey!

Skipping through the bends from the sound of it!

Thoroughly impressed by the tanks too, been up close to some of them moving whilst working and the noise and pressure in the air is breath taking (excuse the pun)

Yeah - having seen a "testing" video done by the organisers the potential for problems without any cones would have huge. The day claimed an MX5, M3 and a Caterham as it was, eh? Oh, and the thing at the end was because one of the marshalls rolled his Volvo 480 off the track and ended up upside down in the grass.

That Evo X was damn fast. Was it the one with SC008 type of number plate? in black? If so, I started ahead of him on one lap but he never got past me - Did catch me up by the very end though which just shows how fast they are.

"pretty much toast" Well, Bengie, I think possibly the toast has been well & truly burnt. [goes online to get another pair of tyres :o]

it was the red FQ300 SST we went in, the black one was possibly a 360

from the "nodding" of the camera around a couple of the longer corners i'm guessing the joins in the concerete surface weren't exactly friendly?!

no offence J but if it was the black one you were chasing he wasn't going flat out as it was faster than Simon's according to him and there is no way yours could match simon's evo in anything other than straight line speed, the ability of that thing to round corners is absolutely amazing.

your fabia has similar handling mods to the focus but weighs more and doesn't handle as well as standard(according to those in the know) and simon was carrying 20mph or more through the first corner in the wet than we were in the dry!!

the evo was amazing tbh and it was "only" a 300bhp.

I'm invited :D

Those poor tyres. Nice driving though, and good vids.

 Good video, nice driving Jason, looked a bit hairy through some of those cones:eek:

its not so great when your in a trench in the middle of the night and all you can hear and feel them close by,but you have no idea if they can see you,a bit worrying that is:D

A pic taken of me by one of the spectators that had parked up alongside the track. Got hold of me via youtube and sent me this pic. Bit of dip on that front left wheel.
