Remap problem

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

I recently had my 51 plate VRS remapped.

Took my car away and i was extremely happy. That was until two days later when my car was running very very slow, felt abit like the turbo wasnt even working (which it was because i could hear the DV)

Anyway i got in it today and its alot better but not as responsive as it was when i 1st picked it up?

I rang the company (Mec Tech) and spoke to the guy that remapped it and asked if the car was just adjusting to the new settings and he basically said no?

Going to give it 2 more days to see what happens then ill be taking it back to see whats happened.

Anyone had heard of this problem before?

Thanks

Darren

Let me get this straight.

The car isn't working, you call them to say is this just the car getting used to it, they say no and don't suggest you bring it in to have a look at the map?

I'd find somebody in your area with VAG COM and get them to do you a fault code scan IMHO.

mmm get it on a scan mate, see if there is any faults, if not get it back to std and money back

try doin a search in my old threads bout red dot mate, dont get in to the thing of them tryin to sort it as you might end up payin more out to get the car fixed again.

Lookin at ur location mate get over to Leeds to see Paul at RSTuning, he is a god when it comes to remaps mate, also AwsomeGTi in Manchester but they were too expensive for me for just a stage 1 APR map, but they are friendly and very helpful.

once the car is mapped it should be fine, you might have had something that couldnt cope with the extra stress mate,

Vag Com it first.

lol

cheesy is too fast for me lol

Where abouts are you? I have vag-com if it's any help.

It was just yesterday it was running very slow.

Today it seems better but not quite as quick as when i 1st picked it up after the remap.

My brother has a vag com but he's away in Scotland for the week! typical!

West Hull Near the KC stadium.

Has it been mapped for 98 or 99 RON and you're putting 95 in it?

As others have said, check out the fault codes and see if a hose has split or popped off somewhere.

could be a good call, I know my brother's ran like **** on the one occasion he had to put regular in it after it was remapped with super in mind

Ahhh... good call.. Ive been putting 95 RON in.

I had a look last night and couldnt see any split or loose hoses??

to be honest if its that bad I cant see it being the fuel, mine is mapped for vPower and runs ok on 95 jus underpower and a tad flat but still not that bad. but spose depends on the map I spose lol.

Never head of Mec Tech. Where are they based? Do you have link to their website?

Try some decent fuel, and which DV are you using? If it is split it will be leaking boost and will make the car feel rubbish.

Ive got a Forge Splitter DV. Which was extremly loud when i got the car back (ovbviously down to the turbo working harder, I was actually getting a flutter sound and not just a whoosh) He never mentioned adjusting the DV though? I had it set at about 65% re circ - 35% atmos

lol mmm I was runnin 45 mpg on the way home from red dot the last time I went to see them lol and after a few starts that was it never started again till I had the ecu re flashed back to std.......

I'd close that up to 100% re-circ for now too try and rule that out :)

Luckly ive just found the blanking cap!!!

I agree, probably a good idea for the time being.

Its at 32mpg at the moment. But ive only had it remapped since Friday so im still giving it some! (within the law obviously)

40mpg is pretty much the mileage you get without the turbo (my turbo blew it's hose off the other week and I got 41mpg all of a sudden). Seems possible you turbo wasn't running very high boost.

I thought that because it was running extremly slow.

Could the turbo change pressure itself (ecu)?

When the car drops into limp mode, among other things it basically disables the turbo (as I understand it, please correct me if I am spreading misinformation). So yes, ECU is perfectly capable of preventing any real boost levels from being generated.

After all, part of the remap is to do with increasing boost so it stands to reason that the ECU can also reduce boost (again, please correct me if I have got this wrong).

Odd that you didn't get an engine light if you were actually in limp mode though.

You're right. The ECU does this with the N75 valve, which controls the wastegate or VNT mechanism to control boost levels. Limp-home will indeed shut off the boost.

But its working again fine now???

Just took it back to the mechanic (quick i know). He's opened up the paramators to accept more pressure?

Everything seems fine now? and it did on the drive down there?

On previous cars I have had, the ECU can drop into limp mode and then recover if it decides the fault has been corrected (on my VR6 it left a note pertaining to the affected sensor noting an intermittent issue). I'm not sure if this is the case for the vRS though.

Perhaps someone else can comment,

That sounds plausible, Infact, that would make perfect sense.
