31st July 2009 - Hullavington Airfield Trackday -

Featured Replies

Me too Jason, I was doing 15 - 20 laps at a time last time I think :)

If absolute tops lap time is 1min 30sec, 10 laps is a 15 min session, and you know the hammering your brakes take on the run down to the hairpin. Unless you have big brakes (like Jason?), I'd recommend numerous but short stints rather than less frequent long runs.

Looking forward to this and I'm happy to supply passenger rides if you Fabia drivers fancy a few petrol-powered laps

I'd like a trip out Lee. At Llandow I managed half an hour on track in one session. That was intense. The car just never felt like it needed a rest at all and I only came in because I was feeling quite thirsty.

I did a couple of 35-40 minute sessions mate, and was running a 312mm upgrade with standard discs and pads :rofl: - was fantastic fun though, and the brakes seemed excellent at the time, just not when I drove off after they had cooled down :P

Running brand new febi bilstein discs and ferodo ds2500 pads this time (well, they'll be 1000 miles old by the time I go on track) - so that coupled with shorter sessions should see less damage done to my braking systems this time ;)

The brakes are hammered particularly on three corners..

1. The one at the end of the first long straight - hairpin

2. The one at the end of the return straight - the sweeping left hander

3. The sharp right hander immediately after the sweeping left hander above...

Each coming straight after the other... but throughout the whole of my last day even with the massively long sessions the brakes didn't feel like they were going to give in once :).

hi guys, sorry i've not been on for a while. i've not picked the mk1 track car up yet as the guy i'm getting it off went away for a month to canade and then decided he was gonna change his number while there so alll the times i text or tried to call were a waste. i'm attempting to arrange to pick it up the weekend of the 24th but not heard back as yet. i still defo want to come but this is all dependant on actually having the car then. i'll hopefully know b4 this weekend in which case i'll let u know on here and book it up if its not to late then. sorry guys, but there was no point me paying up front with no car to bring as i doubt the leon will be much fun to drive round on stock suspension. prob easily get over a ton on the straight but corners would be a mare. i'll let u guys know as soon as i do.

Jason - please can I nab a passenger session in the mongrel? And also, would quite like a trip out in one of the Octavias if there are spaces available :D

Passenger rides are firmly encouraged in mine.

Fingers crossed my two new front seats should be in by then too, for extra support in those corners.

Jason has put a thread up on vagowners and I just posted a thread up on seatcupra.net so hopefully the two places that we need to fill will be filled in the next few days... I'm hoping that ddr & cloanedmk2 confirm their interest and then we're sorted and everyone gets some free tuition! :)

:bump:

Still can't believe that considering we got over 70 cars on track in mid-2004 from a forum base way smaller than now, we can't even get 10 now who fancy a bit of a thrash around.

£99 with a free tuition session to ensure you get the proper start to enjoying your cars off the public road, in a safe environment? It's a no brainer.

Just need those 2 more bookings.

It surprises me that as we managed to get nearly 30 on track at Combe in March we are now struggling to get 10 together for a day less that 10 miles away!

I guess a whole day and £99 is a lot more strain on wallets and vehicles than the Combe "taster" session.

On a cheerier note as the other half will be joining us for the day I will be attempting to hijack a suitable Brisky support/storage vehicle for the day from work - expect either an Octy estate or if it all goes horrible a Transit van that's been to the moon and back!

Tranny van is always good.

I'm going to be leaving my "semi slick" on the rear left for the day - finish it off good & proper, then swap back to my brand new wheels to drive home. I think it will be down to staples by the time the day is out. :D

don't get me started on tyres for the day Jase

I still haven't made up my mind 100% what i'm gunna run on! :D

road tyres for me, but I'm not wasting brand new T1Rs - more dangerous than using my "well scrubbed" T1Rs I reckon.

I THINK i'll be using the track day to kill off my MOT advisory rear Firehawks ( who?? lol) and scrubbing the crap out of my almost advisory Goodyear Eagle fronts then driving home on my new spiders with new rubber on all 4 corners

I'm almost looking forward to finishing the day changing wheels as much as the track action itself! :thumbdwn:

yes - hope it's dry for that. :o

By the way, I've edited the thread title in an effort to make it more appealing.....

I wouldn't be upset if it was wet to be honest as it ends up being a cheaper day so long as I don't spin and hit something/someone :)...

:bump:

Not long to go now!

It's unfortunate that this is on a Friday as I know at least three people who would come if it weren't on a weekday :(

That's why I'm glad I work where I do as short notice time off is not a problem as long as you've not been committed to an audit in advance. I've already booked the Nurburgring time off as well thanks to no audits planned for that period.

yup days off are there to used used for good reason and i can't think of a better one than this!!

I have had 90% confirmation that a van should be fine to play support vehicle for the day - even if i have told awhite lie that it'll be helping someone move house! :D

Ooooo not long now :bump:

Looking forward to it!

Got the new rubber on my new wheels for the drive home so with no worries about condition of rubber expect plenty of "enthusiasm" from me" ;)

looks like i'll have the TT comps in the back for the drive home incase of excessive wear on the 16"s. That is if I can get them touched up following the abuse they have suffered being on the Roomy for 6 weeks :rotz: :weeping:

Tyres are a sore point for me, and a potential mega issue :D

You see I have this as my current tread levels

Front left - about 3mm to 4mm

Front right - at least 4mm, likely more

Rear left - ahem - "illegal"

Rear right - LOADS!

All as a result of my Llandow/Bovington weekend.... So, the question is will Hullavington kill the front tyres or not, as I could end up just changing over both left side wheels and leaving the ones on the right as they are! (two new wheels & tyres ready)

Probably need to order 2 more Toyos I think.....

Weather forecast doesn't look that promising :thumbdwn:
