hi there ,haveing a little problem with my car atm ,pulled out of work the other day and my tec said to me that my tappets sound noisy, the car is now on 92k and had the cambelt done at 85k......

on a closer lisson he said that it might just be a noisey cam or the tappets!!!!

help.......

has any 1 on here had/got the same problem ....

is it a easy fix ,price to get done ect

thanks fadom

Have you checked the oil level? Low oil can give you a noisy top-end.

yeah the oil is fine , i had to do a long run to devon so i checked it the other day !!!!

any other ideas ??

Wear in hydraulic tappets is very rare, so it's more likely to be the camshaft lobes that operate the rockers for the PD injectors and possibly wear on the rockers themselves.

Not going to be a cheap fix I'm afraid.

ok i will mention that to him ,he was just saying to me just ,to try a oil change and flush as he thinks that might be 1 of the problems as it might of had the wrong oil in it :( bad times what is the best oil four that one ??

thanks guys

The oil change advice is good; these hydraulic tappet engines are often tappety when cold and the oil needs changing.

You need oil to VW505.01 Spec and make sure the seller doesn't sell you VW505.00 oil. The cams that operate the PD injectors need the higher spec oil. I use Castrol Edge for PD diesels.

Try an oil change and don't use a flush!

Otherwise unless it's very noisy, don't worry about it. It will sound a bit tappety from cold until the oil circulates and gets to temperature.

ok so just try a oil change four now with no flush and see how it goes , then if that dont fix it ,think big money to get fixed i would say ??

In a word, yes :(

THis is a problem with certain engine code 150 TDIs but that seems to be because the camshafts are a bit softer?? Otherwise it's perfecly possible if the car hasn't been serviced as it should or the wrong oil has been used that by the time it gets to a higher mileage it will develop this kind of problem. It'snot a cheap fix but there should be documented cases on the likes of UKMK1Vs.net or TDIClub.com, particularly relating to the 150s and I am sure there are quoted prices to fix. Don't whatever you do try to cut costs by doing one or the other ie cam or tappets, both must be done together or you will end up doing it twice, someone who has done the job before or a VW specialist would probably be a good idea actually. I read a load of stuff on this recently as I was thinking about a 150TDI, got a VRS instead though.

All the best.

Instant fix - see the adding 2-stroke oil to the tank threadhttp://briskoda.net/fabia-i/early-results-mixing-2-stroke-oil-into-derv/141964/ - it'll be more quiet than it was when brand new.....And the mechanic will ask you how you did it....

I would be interested to know how 2T in fuel is going to do anything, other than lub the pump and injectors. If it is worn tappet/cam/rockers, 2T will do nothing.
