Protection for rear bumper - VRS estate

Featured Replies

My rear bumper is starting to get scuff marks on it from luggage and stuff.

Do Skoda offer any bumper protection accessories ?

Or has anyone seen any aftermarket protectors?

Skoda do a stick on plastic protector that goes on the top side of the bumper that gets mullered by toolboxes and drill cases - on my car at least.

The Skoda accessories site sucks *** and isn't working at the moment

I thought that Milotech did a stainless protector, but on looking, I could not find it :(

Yeah they did, I almost bought one last year but never got round to it. Wish I had now

Many thanks chaps.

Rearguards website dont have the Octy 2 estate as an option so it looks like Ill go for the silver ABS Milotec one. Skoda dont appear to offer anything similar at all.

We've got the fabric Skoda boot liner fold out one which covers the boot about a foot all round and then a flap folds down to protect the bumper from doggy paws when he jumps in and out.

Works quite well, and has velcro to hold it to the sides and also loops that go over the internal T shapes loop holders inside the boot.

I got the silver milotec one on my car (diamond silver) and the carbon design one on my wifeys roomy (black magic).

They do what they should do, protect the rear bumper. And they dont even look too bad.

Looks just the job on your car but I wonder how that would look on my car (race blue) ? . Also the UK Milotec site doesnt list them; only the german site, from where I presume you obtained yours.

I'll see if I can get one easily in the UK, otherwise I'll contact the site in germany.

Ta - I'll pop down to my local-ish Skoda dealer sometime soon and have a chat with them.

Hello Jules

Yes, I got mine here in Germany.

Another way to protect the bumper might be the 3M Dinoc foil.

Or take the carbon design one, it is black and might look better on a race blue car.

Why not get the black plastic one and have it re-sprayed in Race Blue to match? That way, it won't be so noticeable.

Hi there, the carbon and silver protectors are both available from RSD - see link below. Speak to a lady called Trish. I have a carbon one on my Race Blue VRS Estate and I really like it - not cheap at about £60 delivered, but cheaper than a respray. I reckon the silver one would be a bit bling, but the carbon one blends nicely with the black trim around the windows etc.

Yeah, this kind with the flap that folds over the bumper when you want it are great. My old dears have got one on their volvo.

Hi again, attached is a piccy of the Milotec Carbon on my VRS Wagon in Race Blue. Hope this helps - and apologies the car isn't very clean !

That looks spot on :)

How about:

Although I have not seen one in the "flesh".

i bought one of these and they're top notch, good fit, good quality (ie not made out of choco box plastic but, rather, heavy duty material) and same shade as bumper inserts. mine's for a hatchback but you should give the firm a call as i'm almost certain they'lll be able to make one for an estate. overall: worth the money.

The problem will be the form of the bumper. The RS bumper differs a lot from the std bumper.... :(

I know Mike Holroyd was researching bumper protection a while back to protect his rear end from doggie claws when ingressing/egressing, so I'm sure he'll have good feedback on the product he finished up with.

I rejected the Milotek solution because i) I didn't particularly want my protector visible at all times from the outside (spoils the designer's good job) ii) it doesn't look as if it reaches as far over the radius of the bumper as it needs to in order to protect from dog claws (might be OK for luggage and stuff though).

Having then reviewed all the various 'flapover' products on the internet I concluded they were all extremely overpriced for the additional function they would offer (I already have a canvassy sort of floppy liner to protect the boot carpet from muddy dog but it's not quite big enough to flap over the bumper) so I finished up using a simple rectangular rubber mat. You can get these from any cheapo towncentre shop for a £ or two - so you save a fortune on the 'custom made' jobbies; they're quite heavy, so they stay in place courtesy of their own weight when being used - it doesn't fall off when Fido jumps in or out; they reach well over the edge of the bumper so offer complete protection; you can roll it up and just leave it in the boot when not being used - so doesn't spoil exterior appearance of car; you can leave it at home when you need to trim the ounces to beat your Nurburgring lap record; you've probably already got a spare one lying in a cupboard at home somewhere anyway!

OK it's 'Make Do & Mend' ... but what's wrong with the war-baby mentality?

Ive got the Milotec one in silver to go on my Ovty II vRS due to the dogs claws scratching the bumper. The protector is great, paint is more resiliant to scratches, and it looks pretty cool, and I find it is just the right size and width to give good protection. :)
